Keane put on Waivers...

Why did the Canucks sign him then put him on Waivers and could lose him to another team?

Because they had to. Keane was not officially signed when the waiver draft occured so because he was signed just after that date the Canucks have to waive someone for Keane to fit the protection list of the Canucks.

Hypothetically the Canucks could have put Lindgren on waivers and not Keane but obviously the Canucks think that Keane is less likely to be picked up than Lindgren.

They were thinking that if the other 29 teams didn't want him as a FA, why would they want him now.

500k is not that much....its feasible *although doubtful* that he will be picked up.

Also if someone picked him up they would have to waive someone also.
