NOW HERE’S a “Russian Rocket” you will love.

He shoots and scores. And shoots and scores.

Just 20 years old, rookie Konstantin Pushkarev already shares the Manchester Monarchs scoring lead with Noah Clarke.

from the article:

“He’s starting to do the things necessary to survive in the NHL,” said Monarchs coach Jim Hughes, noting that Pushkarev was the team’s best player last weekend against San Antonio.

“He’s learning to come off the ice when called for,” Hughes said. “He’s putting pucks in deep instead of trying to make a play by carrying it through the neutral zone every time. And he’s stopping hard on loose pucks instead of skating a big arc when he loses it.”

The rink turns (skating the big arc) are something that coaches and GMs will not tolerate. It's my understanding that management thought rink turns were probably the biggest flaw in Steve Kelly's game. This shouldn't be news to any of the regulars here given that I wrote about it on several occasions...

Anyway, it seems as though management has identified some things with Pushkarev and he has made adjustments. This is a real good sign. If he continues to take ownership of the changes, it demonstrates that he is coachable...
