Ugly (van @ min gameday, 10/25)

Ugly game for us. Kept trying to put a long stretch pass through when the Canucks were sitting back in a 1-2-2. Doesn't work well. Lots of bad bounces and what appeared to be poor communication. Injury losses could explain some of it.. unfamiliarity, etc. But not all of it.

Beauty goal by Daigle, though.

I thought Boogs and Nazarov weren't both going to be dressed, what was the deal with that? Nazarov made some horrible decisions, not Bertuzzi passing up open shot in the middle of the crease horrible, but bad none the less.

Yea, it was nice to see Daigle get the first goal out of the way.

Tonight was a pretty bad game from what I saw of it. Studying prevented me from seeing the whole game, but when I watched it seemed like the 'Nucks owned them in both ends. The Wild spent a lot of time skating around, just trying to chase the puck down. Vancouver seemed to move really well and their passing was on, while Minnesota just seemed ... off. Just a sloppy night over all.

I agree with what was said earlier: Why do we have Nazarov, again? Boogaard seems to have that role down, and has been much better than my expectations. He's not a very good skater but at least he works his tail off and doesn't make bonehead plays. That's more than what they expect out of him, I'd assume. I can't imagine Nazarov sticking with this team much longer.

I'd imagine that Nazarov will be on waivers soon. He sucks and doesn't fit in. Better, cheaper players should be given a chance...even if to just sit in the press box and watch. Westrum, even maybe Voloshenko, carry an extra defenseman, I dunno...anything.

GM's are realizing that underproducing over-priced goons are expendable. We are doing well right now...we gotta keep the ball rollin'. The Devils just waived Oliwa...I think we should follow suit.

Makes you wonder if the Wild front office feels like they made a mistake selecting Kassian instead of a skill player.

It would, but for some reason, they feel they absolutley must have goons throughout there system. Even multiple ones at various levels.

As for the game, I wonder if keeping 2 worthless goons is starting to catch up with DR and the Wild. They were so depleted last night that they were forced to dress both and it showed. Brutal game, absolutely gave us no chance to win despite the outcome. Sad to say it was my first game of the season and that was what I get to see.

The last 3 games have been less then stellar IMO. I knew they would come down some but they showed little in the last 2 and Manny stole the game from St. Louis.

Hoping JL turns up the screws for the home-and-home with the Blue Jackets this weekend.

Update:

Here is some more:

Friday will be four weeks since Koivu sprained his knee. He was examined by doctors Monday and hopes to be cleared soon.

"It feels great," Koivu said. "I'm skating better, and it's way stronger thanks to the trainers and [strength and conditioning coach] Kurt [Olson]. I think I'm on schedule. I'll talk to [trainer Don Fuller] and the coaches and then we'll make a decision [on when I can play.]"

Coach Jacques Lemaire said by watching Koivu's skating, he is "not ready." But Lemaire said Koivu is the type of player who might "not be ready yet. Not ready yet and then all of a sudden, I think he's ready."

Risebrough said Saturday that he felt Koivu would be ready by this weekend.

"When I first skated, I worried about the knee when I stopped," Koivu said. "Now, when I do it more, I don't feel it anymore. "

I really hope Koivu is ready. Not just to play, but to play well...hopefully this is what management is thinking. It wouldn't be fun watching him struggle and hear all the rumblings about "what could have been" already. With Gabby out, a little production out of Mikko could go a long way. Give him a shot, but proceed with caution.

Talk about a much awaited debut...

Maybe they're drinking their own kool-aid, thinking they can just teach any player to play in the NHL.

With speed at a premium and the talent available at the time, I would've like to have seen a different selection, that's for sure.

Yes, and eating a $625,000 contract is an unpleasant side effect.
