The sad part is that they're actually not playing too badly tonight. Ottawa playing amazing + our goalies sucking horrendously =

I agree, but none of the 3 goals Biron allowed would be considered tough saves. The third one hit the post, then was put in.

Mika doesn't looked like a world beater either, but at least he just got burned. I think his jock was hanging from the French Connection banner, after that goal.

Albeit out of control as usual, I thought Afinogenov had a decent period of hockey.

Marty Marty Marty

And could Fitzpatrick have looked any more like a minor leaguer, on the Havlat Goal.

Afinogenov had a great period - I was shocked to see that he's in the bottom half of ice time, it seemed like he was out there almost every shift.

if this is the beginning...

"I just feel once you get through October and part of November, then the grind really does begin," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said.

we're in big trouble

2 Things:

First: I really hope that the Sabres bounce back and make a game of it. Mika's an athlete, and Ottawa is such a flashy team, it might help.

Second: They have got to stop playing those ***damn Heron's Landing commercials. Please, for the love of anything sacred, stop those commercials!!!

He tried going around Phillips instead of passing. Naturally, it didn`t work. Why does he keep doing that?

For all the people making fun of Biron`s stats tonight, here`s one. Rory Fitzpatrick is -3 in only 3 min. 11 sec. of even-strength time.

GBU 1st frame? ok

Well since I don't see many games, I'll start a quick GBU for the first period, (this game may need a few installments to get all that ugly in)

Good:

The Sens

Kotalik - finishing checks, getting back on D, creating chances, our best forward and player of that period for sure

Max - energy, hustle, but as always needs to finish and make the smarter plays.

Bad:

Its only extremes tonight for me...

Ugly:

The Sabres effort. Not bailing out our goalies in the least. Neither of these guys have been playing games and the team does nothing to support them. Its pathetic.

Tallinder. Disgusting really, there's nothing more to say.

Vanek's backchecking.

Overall...its an ugly game for the Sabres.

edit: forgot Max

WOW. This is U-G-L-Y.

I'm not sure what to think right now. I'm basically speechless.

2 starts and a goal within the first 2 minutes each time is inexcusable. Marty, Marty, Marty....

Then Mika comes in and allows a goal on the first shot he faces. Sure it was a nice goal by Havlat, but could Mika have looked any worse on that? Jeeez.

Where's the leadership on this team? Nowhere to be seen tonight. Work! Work! WORK!!! When will these guys understand?

For a second, I thought it said that Biron was tearing IT up after being pulled. I thought, 'Wow, what kind of saves is he making on the bench?' Then I understood, and, well jeez, now I just feel kinda bad...

I think its excusable tonight, I don't see how Miller would have done any better given the circumstances. We as Sabres fans seem want too much from our goalies, how about some decent (not even good) effort and intensity out of the rest of the guys. That doesn't seem like too much to ask. The way the team started its like they don't even want to win.

I know back up goalies are supposed to be ready when called on, but I think we are seeing what happens when back ups sit on the bench for most of the first month of the season....

Seriously, I think Marty and Mika must have had too much candy trick or treating, or too much sugar in their cereal as they have no patience, they are committing to the play way too early. You can really see how patient Miller has been and why we have been sucessful with him in net.

It's periods like this that can really get a guy hooked on Law & Order CI. I wonder if Vincent D'Onofrio can stop a puck or backcheck...

On a separate note, Ryan Miller is in the pressbox bumping around buffaloniagarahomes.com. If he already didn't know, his job as the #1 goaltender is safe as can be.

I hear ya. Sucks for them they have to come in and play the most skilled team in the NHL.

I'll be the first to say it....I think Regier has missed the boat. Who the heck would want one of our goalies now? I thought they could increase their values with some appearances, their values have hit rock bottom at this point. OUCH. That 2nd rounder from ATL looks mighty good right now...damnit.

Before tonight...

# of games played by Miller: 10
# of games played by Biron: 1
# of games played by Mika: 0

To expect Marty and Mika to play as good as Miller is outrageous.
