Hawks Aquire Hilbert

General Manager Dale Tallon announced that the Blackhawks acquired C/LW Andy Hilbert from the Boston Bruins for a 2006 fifth round draft choice. Hilbert had 79 points in 79 games for Providence (AHL) last season.

pretty poor return, although i guess his reputation cost us in the deal. so long andy - at the least, i'm sure he'll shoot the puck a lot

"damn good"? not really. he has potential for maybe 25 goals, but potential never won anything. maybe lapointe's character will rub off on his a bit - andy's a bit of a whiner.

I'm sure that he'll do great for their Minor league team. AHL all-star.

Too bad he demanded too much in negotiations. Should have taken the two-way and proved that he belonged in the lineup, just like Boyes and Leahy have done.

Horrible attitude, and I'm glad he's gone.

I think this is a good deal from the Hawks. Obviously no one was offering much for Hilbert and maybe he can make it in Chicago.

guy's got a great shot - wicked. his skating is good, he's got pretty good offensive ability. on the flipside, rumors are that he used to take shots just to pad his stat totals. he also wasn't very well liked in a lot of places he's played, although brad boyes speaks highly of him. i dunno - he strikes me as the "my crap don't stink" kind of guy, and providence fans have confirmed this to be true. he should get a good chance in chicago though, and andy would be smart to hang out with lapointe as much as possible.

Personally ive never been a fan of Hilbert, if he ever becomes more then an AHL All Star or a injury replacement for 3rd line spot duty then ill eat my hat

Hilbert wants to play in the NHL. His holdout/trade request in Boston wasn't just a salary demand. He didn't see his career going anywhere while he was the Bruin's property and asked he for a trade. It would be great to see him become a solid NHLer. Even if he cracks it as a 3rd liner he would be proving Boston wrong; the Bruins acquired Isbister, McEachern and Scatchard to play those roles rather than give him a shot.

Good luck in Chicago Andy Hilbert.

Good deal for Chicago, I'm somewhat dubious he'll ever become more then a fringe NHL'er but he has some small potential of making an impact and for a 5th rounder it's probably worth the risk.

how would it be proving boston wrong? hilbert isn't playing in boston b/c he didn't sign his contract. if he did sign, he'd be playing regular minutes right now with all the injuries.

I'd whine and moan too if I was on the B's organization...at least in CHI he can be part of a team with a lot of good young players, despite the problems with that orginization. Great move for Chicago.

If Andy Hilbert is acquired for a 5th round pick on the same day that Nathan Perrott is acquired for a 5th round pick, then something is completely wrong.
