Value for Havlat! Sign and Trade after the season.
Let's say the Sens trade Havlat in a sign and trade after the season. Assume the Sens go far in the playoffs this year and Havlat plays well this season on the Sens second line of Schaeffer-Vermette-Havlat . Assume he is healthy and plays 75 games this year and gets 44 goals and 40 assists for 84 points. Assume the Sens would love to keep him but can't due to the cap. Assume we sign him to a 3 year 14 million contract after the season so any team that gets him is guaranteed 3 years of Havlat for a Cap hit of 4.66 million per year.
Ottawa wants a top forward who will make about 2.5 million a year for 3 years and more depending on the quality of the player(s) they get back. He could be on a Rookie contract for a year or 2 and due for a big raise in the 2nd or 3rd year. The weaker the key lower salary forward the more in additional the Sens would ask for.
