Lecavalier article from AJC (Atlanta)

http://www.ajc.com/thrashers/content...3nhlnotes.html

Just a brief article on Vinny from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, thought you guys might be interested. It mainly talks about his friendship with Ilya and his interest in returning to Russia.

I've really liked the Lecavalier interviews on his Russian experience, always an interesting read. Sounds like a real down-to-earth guy who realises just how lucky he is.. Quite a likeable fellow really.

who cares about them. there's way too many people here who post as if they know a thing about hockey...when their posts truly prove otherwise.

You hit the nail on the head there, my friend!

A lot of people are either jealous of Lecavalier or hold him personally responsible for not living up to his hype immediately, thus he's "overrated", etc. That's one reason I hate seeing a lot of pressure and hype being put on young guys.

I remember him saying the facilities in Russia are subpar, but not the hockey.

Facilities, as in ice rinks, toilets, or both?

All of the above and add hotels and planes too. No hot water in the showers at the rinks and you have to bring your own towels and toilet paper. Beds in road-trip hotels that are way too short for 6'4" players with sheets like sandpaper. Planes that fly you on road trips that look like they are ready for the scrap heap. Those are just a few of the exciting experiences in Russia. Oh, and then there's the 2 hour practices everyday with maybe one day off in a month and carrying around all your equipment on the road trips. The actual game-time hockey might be great but that's an whopping 10-12 hours of your week.

Don't get me wrong, I've talked to Vinny about Russia and he said the people were great and it's a beautiful country but he also said he would only ever go back there on vacation. It certainly made him really appreciate the way players are treated in the NHL.
