Conan > Letterman?

I've not been a late night viewer for some years now, but a combination of insomnia, alcoholism, and depression lead me to keep some ungodly hours tonite.

I noted that Dave's guests included Matthew Broderick, apparently a Broadway star... and Teri Garr, whom I love but I can't recall the last thing I've seen her in aside from Close Encounters...

Conan had Jennifer Aniston, who I only know from Friends, Leprechaun, and Office Space, but I know she's a huge name these days... as well as 50 cent, who has the honour of being the last rap artist whose album I listened to in its entirety, as well as having a highly touted movie coming out.

So to those who maintain vampire hours... does Conan draw upper-tier guests more than Dave nowadays? Leno I leave out, as I can't stand his brand of comedy, but I suppose he may beat both insofar as pedigree of guests...

I was actually surprised at the caliber of guests Conan drew tonight.

Dave and Jay still get more big names than Conan, but that's simply due to the time slot.

I figured as much, but still I wondered if Conan was drawing enough of a slacker/insomniac audience to merit a higher calibre of guests...

I always enjoyed Conans skits more than any others... although Lettermans laissez-faire attitude often makes me grin.

Jennifer Aniston was on Letterman on Monday.

Conan is my favourite, but I think some of the big guests he gets are because they are in New York for Letterman in the same week.

Conan > all

Reason: James Lipton of Inside the Actor's Studio comes out and reads (all acting-like) the lyrics from that Kevin Federline song.

I was surprised at how good a guest 50 was. Very funny guy.

Conan is the by far best late night show right now.

For hilarious fun, check out http://www.conanvsbear.com/

Not many other late night shows would have such great sites dedicated to them fighting bears, which proves how much he rules.

Conan is the man.

He is probably getting better guests now that he has been promised the Tonight Show gig in a few years.

If Letterman is still around when Conan takes over for Leno...Conan is going to kick his butt in the ratings.

Here's how the New York latenight talk circuit goes:

Some star is about to have a big movie released, so they go to Letterman on Monday. Then, they're on Regis on Tuesday morning. Then they're on Conan Tuesday night.

I don't find Letterman funny at all. Conan is pretty good sometimes ...but I find it kind of annoying that he always seems to want to be the focus of attention during the interviews. He'll go off on a little comedy bit during an interview and the guest is left just sitting there. Kinda lame, really. The person was good enough to show up for a taping, let them have the spotlight for the whole interview. He always seems to steal their thunder.

Sure, sometimes it's funny ...but I just find he does that way too much.

I think they are both great in different ways. Conan's sense of humor and goofy delivery are great. I think his depth of comedic ability is far more creative. But Letterman's sarcasm and synicism are natural and great too.

Ultimately, Conan has arrived (actually a few years ago, really) and this argument is worthy!

If you don't watch either, you should try, i would bet you would get a kick out of one them, if not both!

Too many of Conan's segments suck. The writers on that show aren't very funny.

Bad news everyone (possibly a number of weeks late too!). This thread prompted me to check out the ConeZone and it turns out NBC threatened legal action and ConeZone is down for the count.

Sad news to hear.

Letterman's my favourite with Conan coming in second. I don't mind Ferguson too much, and Leno, well... I can't stand.

Well Dave looks to be taking a beating....but let me say this, Dave has changed from when he was on Late Night. It's hard to say who would win if it was Dave in his prime vs. Conan. But I would say it's an evolving thing. First was Carson and he was great. Then came Dave and he was so different than Carson but he was influenced highly from Carson. Now you have Conan who is different than Dave, but all comedians now are doing things that Dave did.

But at this point, Conan is better than Letterman, because Letterman has quit caring.

its too bad that the best late nights guys are on after mid night.

Furgeson and O'Brien are the class of late night TV right now

Letterman's style has never caught my attention. Leno used to be good back in the day but he seems so conservative and politically correct now.

As for Carson Daly.... how the heck did he get this gig?
