Official GDT: Oct. 11, Detroit vs. Ottawa

Should be a great game, played by 2 great teams. And the best thing about it, is I'm going to to be there.

My prediction is 3-2 for the Sens in OT.

4-1 Sens.

PS-I hope Yzerman plays well at home and get some recognition from the fans.

Here's to hoping we have a good game. I'm hoping for a Sens win of course...but when you have two of the elite teams going at it...you never know who wins.

GO SENS GO!!!

This will be a great game, no doubt.

I really would like to see how Ottawa's explosive offense is contained by Detroit's amazing defense - thats pretty much the story of the game.

Who wins? Its not Detroit vs. Ottawa really...

its Detroit's Defense vs. Ottawa's Offense - the winner of that wins the game.

I say Detroit over Ottawa because Detroit's defense beats Ottawa's offense and Detroit's Offense is much better than Ottawa's defense. It will be a great game though, could be goaltending or special teams that is a HUGE factor.

Detroit 3
Ottawa 2

So far Hasek has looked a little shaky IMO, i think the Sens will take them this time

Eh? Ottawa's defense is either #2 to Detroit or equal and could perhaps be even better...younger legs. It will be a great game tonight, but I would imagine that the Sens will be outplaying the Wings and their vastly superior defence.

It's too bad that maybe the two most well-rounded teams in the league will be playing this early. Put this game in January or something, and it would be simply amazing. Right now, guys will be rusty, and the hockey won't be great.

For that reason, I see the Sens taking it. The Wings have legs that will take a while to heat up, and Hasek has performed miracles, but after a year of not playing, it will take him a few weeks to get back into the flow. It'll be close. Regardless of who wins, I don't think it means anything this early. At this point, we're basically playing pre-season games with our best line-up.

I think it will be a pretty close game that could go either way.

If Shanahan actually shows up for the game this time, it could very well be the wings' that come out on top. 4-3 wings.
If not, 4-3 ottawa if Hossa dominates like he did during the preseason.

Remember, the only injured player on the wings' currently is Cujo.
Ottawa is missing Mike Fisher (Elbow), Todd White (Upper body...Sore back? Shoulder? Abdomenal pull?) and maybe Shane Hnidy (foot)

My respect for Ottawa and general loathing of all things Detroit forces me to make a homerish vote:

Sens 4 - Wings 2

Fisher is hurt, and White is as well, but Hnidy is our 8th defenceman. He can be hurt all he wants.

Either way, that's 2 important players on Ottawa's roster with a combined total of 98 points from last season gone.
Who's going to take their places in the lineup for tonight?

Vermette played for Fisher against Montreal, and played very, very well. Jody Hull (who's supposed to be a coach/player in Binghampton) will take White's spot.

I'm not doubting the Sens will be short-handed. The Wings are also old, and may be rustier.

Ottawa won't be in too much trouble... their depth, especially at the forward postion, is what makes them such astrong team.

tonights lines for Ottawa will probably look like this:

Varada Bonk Hossa
Schaefer Spezza Alfredsson
Schastlivy Smolinski Neil/Hull
Vermette Van Allen Neil/Hull

Redden Rachunek
Phillips Chara
Volchenkov Leschynshyn/Pothier

not as scary as the sens fully healthy lineup (obviously), but still not a team to be taken lightly in the least.

First of all I envy you, being at the game and getting the opportunity to watch Pavel...enjoy it. He's so fun to watch.

That said, I'm hoping the excitement and momentum from the game the other night spills over into this one and I will go 3-2 Wings, with Nick Lidstrom, Brett Hull and Pavel getting the goals.

Have fun and give us a good report on it later. I'll be interested in your point of view.

This game should give us a good taste if they were to meet in the SCF. Too bad Ottawa can't ice their full lineup but they still have quite a lot of firepower.

Ottawa takes it 4-2.

Detroit 3-2 in OT

The call that gave Ottawa a 5 on 3 was absolute garbage. Chara cut across the crease and tripped over both whitney and Hasek. The powerplay led to Ottawa's second goal.

Aside from bad officiating it was a good game.

thats okay though, While the call was bad. Chara's Complete and total boneheaded play in OT made up for it.

We got a point...the "managers" had it in for us...nuff said.

Does anyone have enough fingers to count how many power plays the Dead Wings had tonight?

Shouldn't be a problem unless you happen to be missing some fingers.

tsn.ca and espn.com both claim that the Wings had 8 powerplays while the Sens had 5.

imma gonna go dig me a hole. Lemme have your number so i can Call you when im done. You can Cry me a River.

Sens had an unwarranted 5-3, 5 total power-plays. They had every opportunity to win this game.

Chara's boneheaded OT Penalty was what killed you guys.
