I think Phoenix's management is the most active in the NHL since 2003-04. Non-stop roster changes.... can't be good for team chemestry.

Interesting to say the least. An enforcer is a welcome addition although not really a required one.

Wasn't he waived like 2 weeks ago? Did they end up calling him up again and sending him back down?

He would have to clear waivers if he was called back up from the AHL. If that is the case then New Jersey would be responsible for half of his salary/cap hit. It would be interesting if this is indeed the case. Lou is not really in a position to be giving up cap space for a guy not even on the team.

That's hilarious if New Jersey has to pay Oliwa 400,000 to play for Phoenix.

Good for Phoenix though I was tired of them playing w/o an enforcer.

Good move by Coyotes, they get a bonafide top-heavy enforcer who didn't look out of place playing regular shift with Flames last year.

Oliwa can skate, shoot and fight.

He isn't very smart though. He makes big time idiot decisions, which is the only thing that's really prevented him from becoming a chris simon enforcer/player type.

Apparently he's also quite the jerk in real life, and teams largely avoid him off the ice.

That's just rumour, but it's a steady one.

Gretzky must not have liked his future star defenceman getting pounded and thrown around like a rag-doll by Iginla the other night and nobody on the team having the balls to counter it!

I think this post is more proof of your personal grudge against Phoenix than anything else.

Oliwa on a freebie. Yes, a damning indictment indeed. If that's your "proof", the joke's on you.

I have no reason just to bust on Phoenix. Oliwa for Kolanos? Sorry, Mike Barnett is the only one I could see that could do this. Maybe Milbury too. Oliwa stinks and he is long past his time where he was of any use to anyone

Hey I'm just calling it as I see it - usually you're pretty knowledgeable in your views, but when it comes to Phoenix, every single post is irrationally unbalanced. You could just as easily call it Lehoux for Kolanos. But no, it suits you to call it Oliwa for Kolanos. The fact is these are waiver wire players with no trade value and Barnett is being pro-active. If Oliwa stinks, no big deal, (except for you apparently).

this is the 3rd thread I have seen on hf about this and not a single link in any of them... this just doesn't make any sense. Seeing is going to be believing for me on this one.

Newsflash dude, Kolanos was passed by several teams, it's not like he was much sought-after young player.

Oliwa brings a physical element to a team which is lacking a top heavy in a division with several very tough players (Brennan, Fedoruk, Perrot, Parker, Erskine, Flinn etc) and Coyotes get him for league minimum.

Not a bad move.

Kolanos for Lehoux is exactly what I'd think. And since Kolanos was passed on by every team lower than the Oilers, somewhere between 12 and 15 by my count, I think question marks surrounding KK now greatly outweigh his upside in a large portion of the league. Many of those teams had room for a young, cheap prospect and said no.

The Coyotes had a need for a player with Oliwa's special talents. And if they get him for half of $850K this is a great move.
