WAS-PIT proposal (2) [Crosby-Ovechkin]

To Washington: Crosby

To the Penguins: Ovechkin

Justification:

1. A center (Crosby) is easier to build a team around. Washington is doing just that. Crosby is argueably more marketable, something the Caps need more of, marketing.

2. Malkin is going to be joining the Pens next year, giving them 2 all-star young centers. Naturally, its better to have a generational center + winger than generational center + center. Also, Ovechkin and Malkin played together before and could have immense chemistry. Crosby and Malkin would only ever play together on the powerplay or in dire situations, if that, as they are similar players in some respects: Malkin is a playmaker with phenomenal vision too.

Anyways, it makes sense to me.

he is DEFINETLY more marketable and that's exactly why pitt wouldn't trade him for anything less then a billion-zillion dollars and a new arena.

I disagree here. Having two strong centers creates multiple scoring lines and it wears out the other team's defensemen better than only having one good scoring line. In the end, if a team has two talented centers, they can more easily add the wingers they need.

Witness Colorado and Detroit in the past: Sakic and Forsberg, Yzerman and Federov. For a decade, the wingers on these players' lines came and went. Forsberg had many linemates (Drury, Deadmarsh, etc.) that were successful in Colorado and less so elsewhere. That is because having two centers down the middle is very benificial.
