Ouch. We don't need to add any speed and this trade hurts us short term and long term. Zherdev has more value than Carter, while Handzus and Berard aren't even in the same league, value-wise.

Do you really think Zherdev and Berard are Hitchcock type players, anyways?

No they don't. They also have no need for Bryan Berard. This trade doesn't make sense for either team.

I think this trade makes plenty of sense for Columbus.

Columbus giving up on Zherdev at this point doesn't make much sense to me, unless I'm missing something.

Zherdev more value than Carter? Can you explain that?

Zherdev has more talent than Carter and more potential? There is a reason Z was the fourth pick.

Z and Berard are the only offense the Jackets have besides Vyborny and Nash. We won't trade both of them (most likely not either of them) in one trade...

Why does Philly 'need to add speed'? I see this as a terrible deal for Philly.

Handzus and Radivojevic for Vyborny and a pick is closer. I doubt either team gives up on their young potential superstars (Philly will not be moving Carter, Richards, or Pitkanen anytime soon). Still, I doubt there is a deal to be made here. Not now, anyway. Check back in February or March.

At the very least this is an interesting proposition to toss around as we need a #1 playmaking center in the worse way until some of our prospects can develop.

My main question would be is Carter ready to anchor a #1 center position? Would his game compliment Nash?

From a Flyers perspective I agree that Zherdev and Hitchcock probably wouldn't mesh but this kid has all the talent in the world. He just needs someone to mold him and unlock his vast potential in a way that fits the NA game. I'd hate to lose him but we need a center.

From the flyers POV...we wouldnt want to give up carter, and we really dont need Berard...This trade wouldnt make any sense for the Flyers

I wouldn't be so certain about that. Carter is very talented. He may have "only" went 11th in the draft but I'm positive if the draft was redone today, there would be a fairly large contigent of NHL GM's who would take Carter over Zherdev. Zherdev may have more 'skill' but that doesn't necessarily mean he has more talent and potential.

I'd take a first line center who is strong, well rounded and capable of finishing in the top 25 in scoring over a more skilled, but also more one dimensional, winger capable of finishing in the top 10 in scoring. Depends on what you want, I suppose. As for the trade, I doubt either team would do. (especially Philly) More suited for the realm of fantasy hockey.
