They played a tough Boston team very strongly today. The shg they scored was a thing of beauty. Hopefully this is the start of some positive momentum.

Buffalo Beauts Beginning to Come Together - Melissa Kania - VictoryPress.Org - Sunday, October 25.

The first hat trick in NWHL history, over 70 shots on goal, one penalty shot and more - That’s what composed much of the afternoon for the Buffalo Beauts and the Boston Pride as the teams faced off in a rematch of their season opener, where the Pride came out on top 5-3.

Boston, a strong team to begin with, opened the game with some good early pressure. They registered 11 of the first 12 shots of the game, limiting Buffalo’s chances and peppering Beauts netminder Brianne McLaughlin with shot after shot. Though Buffalo had a few good chances early, including several shorthanded opportunities, the puck simply didn’t hit the net.

Though the shot count told otherwise, the opening period between the Beauts and Pride was fairly evenly matched. Near the close of the first twenty minutes, it would be Boston who would take the well-deserved lead on Brianna Decker’s first of the afternoon. Decker took the puck high over McLaughlin’s left side, over her shoulder and in, to give Boston the 1-0 lead.

The Beauts weren’t out of it, though, as Kelley Steadman scored her third goal of the season to tie the the game at one. Steadman tried to put it in high on Pride netminder Brittany Ott; when that failed, she continued the effort and was eventually able to shove it in.

@amymoritz - Getzville's @EmilyPfalzer hungry for gold as @usahockey women prepare for Four Nations Cup.

In some ways it was the pinnacle of her hockey career. As a senior at Boston College last year, Emily Pfalzer made the jump to the United States Senior Women’s National Team, playing a role in an American gold at the IHHF Women’s World Championships. In other ways, the experience only made her hungrier, more determined to get better and do what it takes to stay with the ational team.

The Getzville native and Nichols grad has another opportunity at international gold as a member of Team USA in this year’s Four Nations Cups. The event featuring the United States, Canada, Finland and Sweden takes place from November 4-8 in Sweden. The Americans are looking to avenge their second-place finish by way of shootout to Canada at last year’s Four Nations Cup. Pfalzer, a defenseman with an offensive mindset, had two goals and an assist during last year’s Four Nations Cup and a goal and an assist at the World Championships last winter.

Pfalzer is looking to increase her production for and value to Team USA. “Last year I really learned the style of play and just having a year of competition helps,” Pfalzer said. “It’s a little hard to explain. Having played for a year made me more comfortable coming in, but it also made me want it more and want to work hard to stay there and help the team out.”

Quick Recap - Buffalo Beauts 3 New York Riveters 1 - Scott Charles - NHWL.co

The Buffalo Beauts did not dwell on last weeks gut-wrenching loss as they captured their first win in Franchise history defeating the New York Riveters 3-1 at Aviator Sports And Events Center located in Brooklyn. Devon Skeats tallied two goals in the final period to help the Beauts overcome a one-goal deficit. Skeats was able to sneak a wrist shot passed Riveter’s goalle Nana Fujimoto to tie the game and then buried rebound a few minutes later to give her team a lead they would never relinquish.

The Beaut’s had six power play opportunities throughout the contest but it was Skeats’ even strength goals that were the difference. Riveters’ forward and alternate captain Madison Packer remained hot as she scored in her third consecutive game for New York. Celeste Brown tallied her second assist on the season on the Packer goal. Hailey Browne of the Beauts tallied an empty-netter to seal the deal.

Edit - Tickets are free if your are a Beauts Season Ticket Holder - $5.00 each if you are not a Beauts Season Ticket Holder.

Nice if your attending the Sabres game on Tuesday especially if you are ones that tend to get there 90 minutes or more early.
Gives you something to do before the Sabres game. You could watch a period or so before heading across the street.

Congrats to the Beauts on winning their second game of the season this afternoon. 4-3 overtime win over the Boston Pride.
The GWG was scored by Megan Bozek with assists from Emily Pfalzer and Megan Duggan.

Quick Recap - BUF 4 @ BOS 3 (OT) - Erin Flaherty Barfield - NWHL.co - Sunday, January 4.

Boston, Massachusetts - The Buffalo Beauts earned their second win of the season with a 4-3 victory over the Boston Pride at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center in Boston. Megan Bozek scored the game winner 1:20 into overtime, halting Boston’s win four game streak.

The Beauts broke open the scoring on a shorthanded goal by Hailey Browne just under eight minutes into the game. Browne capitalized on a Boston defensive turnover to sneak one past netminder Brittany Ott. Boston answered back with two quick goals midway through the period. Jordan Smelker put Boston on the board with help from Casey Pickett and Jillian Dempsey with 9:21 left to play. Forty seconds later, Hilary Knight put the Pride ahead 2-1, with an assist from Marissa Gedman.

With just over six minutes left in the middle frame, the Beauts evened the score when Browne netted her second of the game on a delayed penalty call to Brianna Decker. Kelly McDonald and Jessica Fickel had the assists. Boston took the lead again with just under five minutes gone in the third, as Brianna Decker put a pass from Hilary Knight past Beauts keeper Amanda Makela on the high blocker side. Buffalo tied it up midway through the period as Devon Skeats converted a pass from Browne.

The teams traded penalties in the final six minutes of play and Boston had a chance to take it on a shorthanded bid by Decker with just over 1:30 remaining, but Makela stood tall. With five seconds left on the clock, Amanda Pelkey took a cross checking penalty. Pelkey’s penalty carried over into the overtime period, giving Buffalo the four on three advantage in the extra time. Bozek put away the winning goal with assists from Emily Pfalzer and Meghan Duggan.

Next Games - Both teams play next Sunday, January 10. Boston Pride hosts the New York Riveters at 3:00 pm ET.

Exhibition - Buffalo Beauts Face United States Under-18 National Team - Wednesday, January 7 - Jami Cohen - NWHL.co

Buffalo, NY - Last night, (Tuesday, January 6) the Buffalo Beauts hosted the United States Women’s National Under-18 team at the HarborCenter for a mid-season exhibition game. The game was a tune-up for United States before they travel to St. Catharines, Ontario for the 2016 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship, starting on Friday, January 8. United States won gold at this event last year, which took place in Buffalo at the HarborCenter.

Two Beauts players who are very familiar with the red, white and blue got on the score sheet in the first period, as Megan Bozek opened the scoring on a goal from Meghan Duggan and Jessica Fickel. The Beauts would take a 1-0 lead into the second period. Buffalo jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a goal by Devon Skeats, but United States countered quickly to cut the lead to 2-1 on a goal by Grace Zumwinkle. Tatiana Rafter closed out the scoring in the second period to give the Beauts a 3-1 lead. United States would add one more goal in the last minute of the third period from Taylor Heise, but it would not be enough, as the Beauts went on to win 3-2.
