Last offseason's signings...Best/Worst

A quarter of the way through the season, who have been the best and the worst signings, so far?

I nominate Curtis Joseph as the best. He's made 82 saves in his last two starts alone. His SV% (93%) and GAA (2.15) have been very good considering he's played for Phoenix (9-9-2). He's stood on his head, keeping Phoenix in games they've had no business being in. So far, he has been by far the most valuable player on the sqaud. All of this for 900k. Not too shabby.

As for the worst, I'm going to have to go with Nikolai Khabibulin. 3.7 goals against per game and only stopping 86% of shots he's faced. I know stats aren't everything, especially when it comes to goalies, but they'd better be alot better than Niki's when you are getting paid 27mil over four years.

What do you all think? Homer votes (like mine) are welcome.

Scott Niedermayer is Anaheim's best defensemen and logs more ice time than anyone else. I say the Ducks are getting their money worth.

...Why? Because he's slow?

Forsberg and Knuble(not sure if he counts since he was signed before the lockout) have been huge for the Flyers.

Nikolai Khabibulin might not be the worst, but for the money given to him, it puts him up there.

What about O'Neill?

He has 9 goals and 17 points in 16 games. Not bad for someone making 1.5 Million.

He was a good acquisition. But it was a trade not a free agent signing.

It's such a good pickup only because he wanted to play for the Leafs. He's worth at least double that on the open market.

Not this past offseason, but Hasek before the lockout looks pretty good right now (and cheap).

Ray Whitney has been an excellent signing for Carolina.

It would have likely been a RFA signing anyways. He was going to Toronto one way or another.

Maybe, but if Toronto was willing to give up a 1st round pick I think Carolina would have gotten more in the trade.

although many people might not agree with me...
I think Kovalev has been what has pushed the habs into the upper echelon of the east

Yeah, Niedermayer is far from a bad signing. Easily Anaheim's best defenseman, in on every situation, and while people might complain about his offensive output, he isn't doing that badly with 10 points so far thus season.

I also can't believe no one's mentioned Teemu Selanne yet. Nearly 10 goals for a guy playing for $1 million............in under 20 games. Sounds good to me.

If we count RFA's John-Micheal Liles at the league minimum is a steal. Strictly UFA's:

Best:
Forsberg
Prospal
Lappierre
Demitra
Conroy
O'neil
Lindros
Stillman

Worst:
Bulin
Holik
Peca

Burke wasn't exactly a shining example of a good signing.

I'm sorry, maybe i should have said Gonchar instead

I just think paying 6.8m in todays NHL he should be doing GREAT things for that team.

Your right about Selanne,a fine pickup for cheap....maybe they should have spent the Niedermayer money on Hamrlik(playing great) and Kariya

I thought I already established that O'Neill was not a UFA.

I love Conroy and so did Sutter but signing him for 4 years may not look that great in the end. Sutter offered him 2 and he wouldn't take it.

Agreed. People are looking at his stats and the Ducks .500 record and assuming he is not playing well. He is playing like the number 1 defenseman that he is.

Worst?
Tjarnqvist and Ferguson...seriously...What the hell was Riser smoking when he signed Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb?
