How about Doug Weight as a Deadline deal?

He's another character guy who has the skill and can skate. Not to mention is tough.

I am not sure what it will take to get him.

Frolov/Conroy/Demitra
Brown/Weight/Cammy
Cowan/Belanger/Avery
Robitaille/Army/Roenick

Bure is not coming back.

Also, you're assuming he's going to be in St. Lou at the deadline... wouldn't shock me if he's been moved by then. While I don't think a team can ever have enough character, skill or depth, I think the blue line is a more pressing need.

LA's problem is not putting the puck in the net. address the defense. I still dont know if the Kings go with Garon and Labs in goal for the playoffs.

I would be all for it. Depth wins in the playoffs. As proven last night, if you shut down Frolov-conroy-Demitra our scoring punch is minimzed.

Weight would be a great pick up

maybe, but 5 million dollars is a HELL of a lot of dough to pay Roenick to play wing on the 4th line.

Don't forget we got a third rounder too.

Roenick has been looking a little better each game. Don't count him out yet.

What is Weight's contract status? Isn't he making a ridiculous amount of money?

I always liked Doug Weight a lot, but I don't think he is what we need. The priority is defence, defence, defence. We could add a top 4 dman and a #6 guy if we are still in playoff contention.

St.Louis would probably want a lot for Dougie too, which I don't think the Kings would necessarily want to give up.

Don't forget about JR, his contract is done after this year. If we see him back here at all it better not be for more than 2 mil.

By the deadline, his contract should be almost paid by then. The kings would assume the rest of his contract.

I think the kings need another solid d-man as well. New Jerseys situation should be interesting next month.

Also, if Roenick is not producing on top six lines, why keep him there? Because he is making 5 mil? Sorry.

You guys are also forgetting Weight will be an ufa after this season. He would be a rent-a vet. A solid one at that.

He is a UFA after this year and is making 5.7 million

If CBJ was not going to eat that kind of salary to get Weight from what I hear ( that I did check), I just can't see the Kings doing it either.I could be wrong, I have not had time to look into it, too many other things right now.

But I know Blind Willie from here would be happy with this deal

I do agree no player movement until trade deadlines.

The addition of Weight would make are fowards very very solid. But if we took on Weight's salary we would have no room for a solid d-man which is what we need.

On the other hand, If there is no solid D-man available at the deadline, I think picking up weight would be a great idea, since there is only 1 year left on his contract.

Todd Marchant was put on waivers today, I doubt anyone snags him. Too expensive.

Our scoring punch is already minimized considering we're playing in the last few games without our projected 3rd line (Luc-Army-Bure)

I don't think Bure is going to play this year.

Weight would make our team very hard to match lines against

I read last night he was going on waivers at noon today. Do we really need another center. I personally think not. Defense is what we could use. I'd wait still. No player movement yet.

If there were no alternatives at the deadline on D, I'd do it, since both Weight and JR are done after this season... But I'd still focus on "D" first.

My thinking is, DW might be dealt before then to another playoff contender. Timing might play a role...

The line of Brown-Roenick-Cammalleri may get the team through the season, but I don't think it'll cut the mustard in the playoffs. Adding a name player would strengthen that line and make it more of a playoff line that's harder to shut down. Weight would be a perfect addition at the deadline, IMO. You get not only playmaking, but veteran leadership.

It's not looking like such a bad idea right as of a few days ago.

What about factoring in the line of Demitra-Conroy-Frolov? What lineup/where would you you insert Weight? I have to agree with prior comments, that I can't see Bure playing for us anytime soon, if at all. Weight could make things rather interesting.

As I mentioned, I don't think that the 2nd line would cut the mustard for the playoffs, so I'd put Weight with Roenick and either Brown or Cammalleri. The one getting bumped would fill in whereever there's an injury (since all of the top 9 aren't going to be healthy all at once).

Philly's 3rd makes it a no deal for me...

BTW Brewer is damaged goods at this point...

from TSN

St. Louis Blues defenceman Eric Brewer has a separation of the AC joint in his right shoulder and has been added to the Blues' injured reserve list, effective Wednesday, for an estimated 4-8 weeks. Brewer, 26, has six points and is minus-12 in 18 games this season.
