I believe this is the late game on CBC is it not? I should try and head to Shanks to watch the game. Anyone from Edmonton needs to know that that is the best place to watch a hockey game in Edmonton.

Big challenge tonight for Reasoner's line and for slow footed defenders. I bet the Oilers get more than one obstruction hooking call.

Well, I hope they win, especially against the Nucks, but it will be tough. I am looking forward to seeing our forwards play without having to sit through a ceremony at the start of the game. Hopefully they will have their legs right off the bat.

I think the Oilers need to come out hitting and hitting hard. You can't do a whole lot about Bertuzzi but I think the Oilers can physically intimidate Naslund and Morrison. The Horcoff line will have to be aggressive all night.

The only thing I will predict is that the Canucks will not be the Sharks

I think a strong first period is important for the Oilers tonight. Alot of hard clean hitting and skating. Get in Cloots face early. Have jump!

Check the Naslund line to peices and stay out of the box.

The rest will take care of itself.

3-1 Oilers.

For the Oil: Reasoner, Staios and York (gwg)

For the Nucks: Pick a Sedin sister.

yes this team is defenitly not the sharks.... and yes if edmonton gets into penalty trouble they will be utterly screwed..... to be honest, this is vancouvers home opener and they are going to be hungry, i am predicting a 4-2 loss for our oil (2 PP goals by vancouver)

I am thinking 4-3 OT loss tonight. And that is only because it is the home opener for Van. I think we can match up pretty well with these guys.

3-1 oilers

Edmonton goals- Hemsky, Smyth, Chimera (GW)

Vancouver (Nasland)

i think our 4th line will set the tone early and it will be a physical game all night.

They NEED to win this game. Not just for their own confidence, but the fans too. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was so sick of Canuck fans proudly proclaming they were 4-0-1 against the Oil last year, like its the only glory they've ever experienced. Then again, thats probably it.

2-0 Oilers.

Actually, their home opener was against Calgary.

Agree with the rest though...penalty trouble is DEATH against the Canucks PP. Our lineup will get a much firmer test, but then so will the Canucks because their win was against a Calgary team that didn't play with much intensity...I have to think the Oilers will be up for this game, they usually are against Vancouver.

Hate to say it, but I predict a 4-3 OT loss.

Home openers do play a role in a teams lust for victory, but Van's home opener was on Thursday Vs. Calgary. So Van already has played that card. That doesn't take away from the fact that the Nuckleheads will be hungry, but it will take some of the edge off - Vancouver has a tendency to get too confident too early.
That said, the game will be close, with the Oil winning 4-2

Edm Goals Hemsky (SH), Laraque, Dvo, Smyth (Empty Net)
Van Goals Bertuzzi (PP), Ratt Cooke (Cheap Goal)

Canucks win in OT: 4-3

Keep out of penalty problems guys and things should go a lot better than the preseason matchups.

Naslund 1
Bertuzzi 1
Cooke 1
Ohlund OT winner

Should be a good one. I better start chillin' that Kokanee asap.

I'll be at GM Place cheering loudly, I love the dirty looks Canuck fans give me when I cheer an Oiler goal and start high fiving other Oiler fans, there always seems to be quite a few Oiler fans there, during the warmup, the Oiler side is always (at least the last 6 games I've gone to)
packed with people taking pics wearing the Oiler sweaters, nevertheles, Canucks OWNED us last year mostly due to their powerplay, 5 on 5 is always pretty even with these two teams and I think Edmonton knows that, anyhow, a close one like always, I say 3-3, Salo steals a point in overtime...

You're shootin' the whole wad here, I take it.

If the boys can keep it simple, tonite is an excellent test. I'm waiting to see how Crawford matches lines. I have a hunch, he's going to be caught guessing, and we'll have some good opportunities.

I won't try to predict scores. It's not my forte. I will say, that if we play like the 3rd period Thursday, I'll be .

GO OILERS GO!!!

I'm going to go with the flow and predict a 4-3 Oiler win! We'll be in a lot of trouble if our slower defenceman start hooking and grabbing though.. I still remember that trouncing we got from the Canucks last year where they had three 5on3 PP's..

yeah. I won't be disappointed if our guys lose, but I'll be very disappointed if they don't play an aggressive and intense game. I want to see Nuck fans going after the game, whether they win or lose.

I hate reading quotes from opposing players- Avs, Stars, Nucks, whatever- talking about how they always look forward to games against the Oilers because they're exciting and fun and whatever. That's crap- that's for losers- I don't want opposing teams to enjoy playing the Oilers, I want them to absolutely hate it. Lowe wants to take this team in a direction away from being Miss Congeniality, and games like this are the chance to see how he's doing.

No kidding. They only like us because those teams WIN the game all the time. We start shoving them around in games and I don't think they'll be as eager to join in on the Oilers' fun, exciting hockey.
