Gretzky vs. Lemieux: Mullet Showdown

Since we've exhausted every other Wayne vs. Mario scenario...who had the sweetest hair in their prime?

I'm talking the early-80's Wayner Waterfall vs. the Magnificent Mario Mullé of the early 90's

Here's my take on it:

While Mario relied on the natural thickness and brilliance of his mane, Wayne had to use his smarts to craft his rather average brown hair into a work of art

Advantage: Gretzky

I'd have to go with Mario. His was the better hockey mullet, and who knows what Jagr would have if he didn't have Mario to mentor him.

excellent point. I didn't take the "Mullet Mentor" factor into account...

Lanny McDonald had the best hair in NHL history.

Granted, it was under his nose, but still . . . . .

One of my first hockey memories was after Calgary won the cup in the late 80s, and Lanny McDonald had the Disneyland commercial...

But Mario was responsible for crafting the Jagr Mullet, whereas the most influence Gretzky ever pulled with the McSorely Mullet

Was he really though? I seem to remember that Jagr had quite the "soccer rocker" when he came into the league. Maybe Mario helped craft it into the upper echelon of mullet-tude that it finally acheived. But Jags was already pretty proficient in the ways of the mullet.

Ryan Smith option? Wheres the love for Alfredsson, Handzus, Jagr?

Can't we appreciate that European players can have hair just as crazy as Canadians?

When will the predjudice end?

Doug Gilmour had a pretty good one going in 1993-94, too.

Alfredsson's takes the cake, though. 5 years after good hair apparently went "out of style" he grows it out?

Jagr had the giant hair before he was even drafted, Mario had nothing to do with it.

Where's the Kerry Fraser option? Oh wait, that's not a mullet.....that's a HELMET!

Combining a sweet 'do like that with those tight spotted cow pants for the milk commercial took awsomeness to dangerous new heights

It's not the best, but I give an honorable mention to Elias' clown hair he used to have a couple seasons back.

Me too. I'd say Eddie's old mullet even rivals Lemieux's.
