It'd be alright playing these guys 8 times a year if we had Detroit in our division.

Ottawa
Detroit
Montreal
Toronto
Buffalo

Boston heads over to West.

Not me. I love hockey and I honestly don't really care who the Leafs are playing, I'm just glad to have it back at all.

I see where you are comming from, and I'm sure it will get on my nerves soon enough. I honestly don't see what was wrong with the previous set-up.

They are trying to create more rivalrys, but in the end they are doing the opposite because you play a team so many times that there is less and less build up between the match ups and they become less important. Just another classic example of Bettman trying to fix what isn't broken.

I definately get bored watching Boston and Buffalo games all the time. I'd watch Habs games once a week, but I'd like to see more Tampa, Rangers, Islanders, Pens than the afformentioned divisional teams.

I'd also like to see more of the western teams especially western Canada (Cgy, Van, Edm) and I'm sure that goes both ways.

I think a previous poster hit the nail on the head "Bettman fixing what isn't broken"!

I just hate the fact that we have to play Ottawa so much.

32 divisional games
+50 games vs rest of league (home-home series with each of the remaining 25 teams)
=82 games

That would be an improvement IMO. We'd still have the divisional games that the league wants, but we'd at least get to see each other team twice, including once at home.

Mind you, it'd be nice to play against some of the other Eastern teams that we have a hate for more often as well (Philly come to mind).

chicago and detroit to the east, washington + another team to the west, would be fun having orginal 6 in 1 division, we used to have great rivalries with chicago and especially detroit, how i miss those, now i am forced to watch toronto vs carolina as nhl built up rivalary

we had great rivalries in the past.

Invest in a decent atlas.

32 games against the same 4 teams is boring, I agree. Even 6 times each was pushing it, IMO.

Yup 8 games is too much. I agree with whoever said that it actually detracts from the rivalries more than anything. I know what they're trying to do, but 5 or 6 games is enough.

What I think the NHL should do more of is back to back games in the same city. I think those are cool. The AHL does that and the NHL has a few situations like that this year.

Like take Boston for example and say we play them 6 times per year. Maybe in the fall, we go into Boston and play them back to back on a Friday and Saturday night. Then toward the end of the season, they come to the ACC for back to back games on a weekend. I think that would be exciting. Kind of like a playoff atmosphere. (The remaining two games we play against them could be thrown in a mid-week game).

Not playing Detroit this year is entirely stupid. Plus we hardly play the western Canadian teams either.

Btw, on a somewhat related note, Detroit is the only Western Conference team that is situated in the Eastern time zone. Sucks to be them for that reason.

I love every game we play against Ottawa. Those games are fun to watch, however I'm looking more at the first two, and not the 3rd...
