Labarbera

I just read where Jason Labarbera left the team to attend to family matters in LA. My question is did the Kings have to place him on a particular list, along the lines of the Injured Reserve, to open the roster spot for Adam Hauser?

i do believe there is a bereavement list if that is indeed what Labs left the team for(a death in the family)

The thing that confuses me is that he probably has no family in L.A. (other than wife/kids, but he would've returned earlier in that case). If one of his parents had died, he probably would've gone straight to his hometown in Canada, not back to Los Angeles. So, even though it's the best explanation, I can't think of how it could be a death in the family

There was no need to move LaBarbera off of the 23-man roster to bring up Hauser because the Kings were only carrying 22 players on their roster at the time. When Hauser is reassigned to the Monarchs today, the Kings will be back down to 22 on the active roster...

Update:

It appears that Hauser returned to Manchester today as was expected and was turned around and is headed out to L.A.

This is strange, indeed. Wonder how long before he's back.

There's been nothing on any other site. Guess we won't know for sure until tomorrow night, but it appears that Hauser might still be with us.

From today's (11/17/05) Union Leader:

Goalie Adam Hauser, with a four-game win streak, was set to return to Manchester for this weekend’s games, but those plans have changed. The Kings’ Jason LaBarbera has left the team tending to family matters in Los Angeles.

“I don’t have any indication and I don’t think Adam does either,” said Hughes of Hauser’s status with the Monarchs. “Quite frankly, we don’t know if he’s out there for two more days or more than that . . . there was a change of plans.”

If Hauser had to clear waivers to be sent to Manchester to start the season, the clock is ticking. If the current CBA is similar to the old one wrt recalls, Hauser gets 30-days or 10-games cumulative before having to clear waivers again.

Update on LaBarbera... (as found on an AHL message board from some Hartford fan who seems to be in the know.)

Apparently he and/or his family inherited some money and had to appear in court. He is expected back this weekend.

Labarbera has been the back-up goalie the past couple of games. He returned last weekend and was back-up on Sat vs. COL and Tues vs. STL. It has been Murray's choice to go with the hot goalie and Garon has been that man. I'm sure we will see Labarbera soon as Garon has played something like 6 games in a row.
