GDT 11/29/05 Flames at Predators

My turn to start one.

I'm putting all my mojo into this thread.

And oh yeah, I hate the Flames, go Predators!

This one's not on TV, anywhere

Hope for a detailed report, since I'll be inter-listening.

see where johnson skated yesterday at practice, but is still questionable for tonight, while markov didn't skate at all yet and is doubtful... so barring a small miracle, we go with the lineup that dressed last game, with allison as our 6th dman, and fiddler and smithson centering the 3rd and 4th lines...

phanuef, iginla and kipper.. expect the tight checking, counterattacking type of game that calgary likes to play

almost game time, have to find a way to put up three on kipper and the flames tonight.. calgary hasn't scored more than 3 goals in their last ten games, and despite that has won 8 of them.. in many ways the flames have become the new minnesota wild defensively though.. but with an iginla.. they're really limiting opponent shots this year (allowing only 24.5 per game on average), and they've won 90% of their games when leading after 2 with this defense first concept.. not a team you want to trail late

one way to crack that spell is on the pp, where calgary has been vulnerable this year.. need discipline tonight, need to draw more penalties than we take, and then take advantage of them

should be a war, with all the bad blood between us in the past, looking forward to it

Wow, talk about scoring from unusual places!

Fiddler scores his first of the year, assisted by Hamhuis and Upshall, apparently made a huge move to score on Kiprusoff. Late period backbreaker, and Hall almost makes it 2-0 into an empty net but got plowed over.

Here's what the Flames' radio team thought of the first period:

- The Flames played a very good road period, and had a few chances; Vokoun showing his importance to the team

- The refs have blown a few calls both ways; they may be letting them play

- Ryan Suter is very impressive, and reminds them a lot of his uncle

- Mystified as to why Kariya and Sullivan aren't on the same powerplay line, as a combination like that could be dangerous

Is that pretty much how it's going?

Sounds about right. Kariya and Sullivan are sometimes out together, especially if we're behind. Otherwise, they are separated because our second PP unit was SO BAD without one of them.

Because then our 2nd PP line isn't very good. If we are behind they tend to play on the same line, otherwise they're on different line to 'spread the wealth' so to speak.

made two huge saves, the biggest one on reinprecht, snapping a puck out of the air at close range "like a frog on a lilypad" according to crispy.

5 PPs....10 shots on goal..TOTAL?!

That's pitiful, and I don't expect this lead to hold up if that doesn't change.

And with the way Vokoun is playing i'll be really upset if the offense doesn't turn it up.

Sounds like the shots the Preds ARE getting are nice chances, but Kipper is up to the task.

Kipper is stopping the pucks on net, but we keep blasting the puck wide of the net. Accuracy, boys, accuracy.

I'm telling you, that's the theme of the season. Timonen, Zidlicky and Hamhuis need to spend 2 hours a day taking shots from the blue line, ON NET.

Don't forget the invitations for everyone else. How many times has Legwand or Kariya had a great scoring chance and just failed to put the puck on net?

HARTNELL! The icing on the cake, after Erat can't hit an empty net, Hartnell bats one past Kiprusoff after they put him back in for the faceoff.

Wouldn't you know...Scott "breakout" Hartnell is on pace for 35 goals, and tied with Sully for the team lead in goal scoring

Good game, guys. That Vokoun is a real show-stealer in the crease. He plays like that all the time, and you guys are contenders in the Central no matter what the rest of the team looks like.

Is that intended like the underhanded jab it comes off as?
