**OFFICIAL** GDT 11/28 - Kings vs. Red Wings

Game Time: 7:30 PM PST | 10:30 PM EST
Location: Staples Center | Los Angeles, CA
TV Broadcast: Fox Sports Net
Radio Broadcast: KSPN AM 710
Online broadcast: Kings Webcast | NHL Radio

  • According to the Detroit Free Press, Goalie Jimmy Howard will make his NHL debut tonight for the Red Wings.
  • The Kings will collect toys and canned foods before the next three home games at Staples Center, starting tonight when they play Detroit. Fans are asked to donate a new unwrapped toy or nonperishable goods, which will be delivered by King players during their annual holiday hospital visit. (LA Times)
  • Luc Robitaille scored his 547th goal as a King against the Blackhawks. He is now three short of Marcel Dionne's franchise record.
  • Mattias Norstrom played in his 663rd game as a King, breaking Rob Blake's team record for a defenseman.
  • King General Manager Dave Taylor said that he would begin negotiations within a month to extend the contract of Coach Andy Murray and his staff.

Quotable:

"I knew he was good, but man, I didn't know he was this good He's strong on the puck, and his hands are nice. He's a young Jaromir Jagr. He's that size; he has those kind of hands. I think, at times, he doesn't know how good he really is. He's out there laughing having fun. It's exciting to be with a guy who is 23 and starting to come into his own.... With the new rules, you can't stop him in front of the net unless you take a penalty. One on one, he's going to make you look silly." - Craig Conroy on Alexander Frolov

"I still want to play playoff game and try to win the Stanley Cup. I'm just 23 years old. I'm looking forward next 12 or whatever years." - Alexander Frolov

"When Pavol was a young guy, he was different. First of all, he had hair. He didn't say a lot, but you knew he was going to be a great player. The second year in St. Louis, he shaved his head and we had six or seven Slovakian players. I don't know if that made him more comfortable, but all of a sudden he was an upper-echelon player." - Craig Conroy on Pavol Demitra

So a Russian, a Slovak and a New Yorker walk into a hockey arena " and the only one you can understand is the New Yorker. You don't know what those other guys are saying." - Craig Conroy

So a Russian, a Slovak and a New Yorker walk into a hockey arena, and the only one you can understand is the New Yorker? ... "I'll get Craig a Russian dictionary. Pavol speaks Russian, we know what each other is saying." - Alexander Frolov

"I don't know if we're going to have a tougher stretch all year, to tell you the truth. If we come off this road trip nine or 10 games over .500, I can see this team really exploding, maybe becoming one of the tops in the league. We definitely know about it. Everybody has looked at the schedule and has been excited for it." - Jeremy Roenick on the Kings' upcoming road trip

"I looked at his eyes, and he looked so bad. He was almost going out of consciousness, and I looked at his eyes and said, 'Hey, stay with me. Stay awake. Stay awake.'" - Mattias Norstrom on Ryan Flinn's injury

Injury Update:
  • King forward Ryan Flinn will be reevaluated today by team doctor Michael Mellman after suffering a concussion during Saturday's game against Chicago at Staples Center.
  • A report from back specialists who examined Valeri Bure in Florida last Tuesday revealed nothing different from the original diagnosis. The Kings have said Bure has a protruding disk in his back.

Previous Meeting(s) this year: Red Wings (2-0-0)

#1 vs #2 in the Western conference and I can't go! Must play role of immobile defenceman at Toyota Center beer league game instead... Go Kings Go and God Bless Tivo!

Kings 4-3 and Joe Corvo with a 1 and 1. And Avery to go especially nuts on his former road roommate Maltby.

Ha good luck with that one multiball.

Why? Avery will drop them with Maltby and Maltby will turtle, and yet everyone will call Avery a (insert favorite anti Avery sentiment here) for not fighting.

Loving my XM Radio, and the all hockey talk channel (204) --- They were certain tonight that Jimmy Howard's debut tonight would be a good one. I'm very interested to see if they are correct.

iTS shaped like a guitar pick. Anyways...the Kings really need to beat Detroit this time...coming out strong and getting the lead first would be a great start. We need a big game from our top lines and hopefully Brown can get it going and Roenick can keep improving!

Pfft...that punk Avery will probably punch him while he's downon the ice, trying to protect himself. Really:
what sort of crazed damaged imbecillic chump punches a turtling player when he can't fight back

Not to mention the fact that he's got that Shannen Doherty "lopsided eyes" thing going on.

I hear that one of Pavel Datsyuk's eyes is off-centre, 'cause it's tryin' to escape.

He reminds me of Willem Dafoe.

As for the Kings... they just have to limit the number of penalties they take. And DO SOMETHING ON THE POWERPLAY.

If they can do that, it'll be close. Jimmy Howard is someone I was hoping the Kings could grab in 2003, but I really, really hope the Kings school him tonight.

Johnny Depp?

No way.

He looks more like Clarence "Screaming Buffalo" Swamptown.
I'm still waiting for him to be interviewed so that he can finally reveal that he calls his hockey stick the "Big Tomahawk," and he usually refers to the opposing players as "the little scalps".
