GDT: SJ Sharks Vs. Dallas Stars 11/30/05

Game: San Jose Sharks vs. Dallas Stars
Date: 11/30/05
Time: 5:30 PM

Let's finish the worst Novemember ever on a good note.

This is my first GDT so I'm hoping to bring some good luck with it.

By the way: I had a dream last night where the Sharks were firmly in control of a game, up by 3 or 4, and it was glorious. Let's hope I have some psychic powers. I do have some faith, as in my dream, Nabokov let up a really soft goal to slim the Sharks lead to 4-1.

I also had a dream I'd get free lunch today, but so far that doesn't look to be the case so take this with a grain of salt.

Prediction time:

Following my dream,

Final score: Sharks 4 Stars 1.

Pessimistic ponderings

Sharks have been heading toward tying their franchise record 13-game loosing streak (from 92-93). (They've toppled all other loosing records.) How long will this streak go on?

Sharks are sitting at the bottom of the division; Stars are knocking at the top.

The last outing for all three goalies that have worn teal this season is a loss. (Toskala doesn't have any wins this season.)

How will the trade rumors/talk affect the team? (Probably not positively waiting for the "shoe to drop.")

Turco has lost only one game to the Sharks. (Or will it be former Sharks' prospect Hedburg in goal?)

Dallas will be trying to put the "cherry on top" of a "brilliant" November with a win against their division rivals. Meanwhile, the Sharks' last win was 11/4.

The Sharks must have believed the media hype at the beginning of the season as it often seems they're letting their reputation preceed them and have not played as well as they could in many games.

(FWIW, I won't be available to work on GDTs for the Buffalo and Toronto games. I'll be fighting the snow and lake effect issues in NY and Ontario.)

Optimistic Opus-ette

The Sharks have the skill, now just need the luck and confidence to start a winning streak.

When you're at the bottom, the only way to go is up.

Goalies always have a loss before beginning a winning streak.

Some players (and fans) may be relieved change is on the horizon.

Turco is not invincible.

Just as Destry rode again, the Sharks will win again.

The Sharks always seem to do the best when the media is against them.

(Hoping to visit both the Niagria Falls and Toronto Hard Rock Cafes, as well as the Hockey Hall of Fame; and have a good visit with cousins.)

Have fun on your trip LS!

I'm breaking out the Sharks Jersey this afternoon for the first time since game 1.

If we win, I will not take it off until we lose.

I'm not sure how I'm going to play this at work as I have to wear a suit every day... possibly underneath the suit?

Won't be upset if I'm hoarse from all the cheering.

(Sharks TV director Frank Albin knows where I'll be sitting so has said I'll be on the broadcasts. Plan on wearing white/road jersey, Sharks' teal Santa hat. Two rows behind the benches in HSBC; don't know behind which team. Upper deck in Air Canada Centre.)

Dallas 5-2, Sharks get momentum and defence miscue causes a small lead to a route.

Is sir Nolan starting? If so 3-2 Sharks. If not 4-2 Stars.

And the starter is.... Nabokov.

Nabby was the first one on the ice for the morning skate (which usually means he's the starter for that day's game).

I'm not a Sharks fan so I don't know as much about them as you do but Nabokov has to play his way out of this IMO. Schaefer has played great but in all honesty he's probably going to the AHL when Toskala gets back.

this is probably the saddest ctiuation a coach can be in. On one hand we have a goalie that should be in the top ranks of those active today but can't fight his demons and is playing like hes in the bottom five.

On the other hand we have a rookie who could potentially become the next Nabokov, but hes third string weather we like it or not because of Toskala.

If Shaefer is put in, theres a chance he'll resume his hot streak and pull the sharks out, but putting a cold goalie on the bench won't do Nabokov any good.

To put Nabokov in puts a cold goalie into a game and each passing game piles on more frustration onto him and onto his team, creating a lovely snowball effect of a very painfull loosing streak. The quesion is how long is it going to take before he becomes the goalie we remember from last season.

To ice the cake, the defence, although getting better, is still leaving the goalie naked too much.

I don't know the solution. Someone give me a magic wand or someone sacrifice a pig to the hockey gods or something

I'm personally glad to see Nabakov in net and with Wilsons language the past week I expected it.

Expected a focused, determined Nabakov and the Sharks will play hard for him and win.

Tonight it ends.

Yeah *** is up with them all being scratched?

Primeau? Mabey....Sturm after an excellent game vs Detriot and a top four defenseman in Stuart for a game against Dallas.

Something has to be up.

I'm nervous.... I don't think this is performance based 'healthy' scratch.

Speculate:

1) Who is playing tonight that had the same late scratches?

2) What teams aren't playing tonight?

Dallas announcer says "You gotta wonder what's going through Marleau's head. He's played so long with Sturm"
