What purpose does it serve the Kings (or any NHL team) to NOT place a player on IR immediately following their injury. OK, so it's a 7 day period, and you think "well, maybe he'll be back in time, and we won't have to replace him with a guy we have to fly across the country..." but let's look at the case of Ryan Flinn... this guy will surely miss more than 7 days with that nasty noggin... why not put HIM on IR immediately and make a roster move that affords you a healthy body? Parros has missed 5 games already, and although he seemed to walk without discomfort around the concourse at Staples, cellphone in tow, he has missed way more than 7 days, and is eligible to come off IR at any moment. It just seems odd to me. Granted Parros will probably miss a while longer, but why not have both of these guys on IR, and have two healthy bodies for the road trip.
And, in other news, nice to see the Kings going into Ottawa and Montreal after the Chicago game and being received by clubs that have a bit o' the injury bug themselves. Havlat (Ott) dislocated shoulder, and half the Montreal starting defense is out as well. Optimism abounds
i dont kno the answer, but since ur team has sufficient players to play without needing to pull someone up, they dont kno if they need to put someone on IR or not. plus, isn't IR a 7 day minimum? that could be the main deterrent...

and sucks for havlat's shoulder. i popped my shoulders out and they never come remotely back to normal. it's one of those thigns that plagues a person's career. it's sad too, could really affect his career in a negative way

Placing them on the IR is committing them to missing a certain number of games (10?). Usually a team will wait until they're sure the player will be out for a while.
