So essentially we got Jozef Balej and Maxime Ouellete for Fedor Fedorov.. I'm certainly happy with that deal.

stupid trade, imo
we should have let our rookie to play in the AHL instead.

Ouellet >>>> McVicar. That's what it boils down to. Hardly "stupid" at all.

Haha, the fact they actually had to put McVicar into the Oiler game last night must have scared Nonis into making a deal.

Can't really complain about a 5th rounder. And with his two-way contract and waiver ineligibility Ouellet at least provides some flexibility in a goaltending situation that is quite problematic with the Cloutier injury.

i know, but eventually cloutier is going to come back.
then it would be
cloutier and alud again
i believe instead of letting Ouellet to play in the ahl, we should let our current prospect to play instead. so in conclusion, we just make an unnessaary move

I was calling for this a while ago - glad it finally happened. It makes tonnes of sense with McVicar being our #2 guy on the farm...he needs to go back to the ECHL.

This move might be an indication that Cloutier's injury is more serious. If it is, Crawford is going to want a guy who can at least play in the NHL to back up Auld.

A 5th round pick is a decent price IMO.

Remember when everyone blasted Bobby Clarke for trading this guy for pending-UFA Oates?

Yeah, what a horrible deal that was

It wasn't just Ouellet, it was Ouellet, a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd
and that is why there was blasting

I like this deal, Vancouver's goalie depth is outstanding now, it can never hurt to have so many tenders with such high potential.

Auld/Oulette/Ellis/Schnieder/Vincent/McVicar

Oulette might have seen his stock fall a bit, but he's still a solid prospect. Auld in front of Oulette isn't so bad.

McVicar is not really a legitimate prospect. He will never be a regular at the NHL level, so why try to make silk out of a sow's ear?
McVicar will be made redundant over the next year or two by Schneider, Ellis-Plante, Vincent, and Mensator. For once, the Canucks have a mittful of impressive goaltending prospects coming up. Ouellet will take care of our short-term need (3rd string goalie in case one of our top two get hurt) and could always surprise us by taking a step forward.
McVicar will be an average AHL goalie, at best.

Good pick-up for the Canucks. With Cloutier's injury woes, and with Auld unable to prove that he can shoulder the #1 duties, even temporarily, the Canucks needed a reliable 3rd string goalie. Flaherty should be that guy, but with him needing to pass through waivers to be recalled, that's a no go.

Ouellet's 24, huh.

It seems like he's been around for a decade.

I like it as well. Ouellete hasn't lived up to it yet, but he still has the talent to be a number one.

Nice pickup for the Canucks. A fifth round pick is not a high risk to take, especially not for a guy like "Who Let" as Jim Hughson calls him in EA Sports NHL.

I like the deal, but I'm confused that they assigned him to Manitoba, and left McVicar here. Should be reversed, obviously.

Maybe this is Nonis penny-pinching again. McVicar's salary is at the bare minimum while Ouellet is making around 750K. By having Ouellet down at the farm and McVicar up until Sunday, the Canucks are saving a couple of thousand in their salary cap payments.

I'm sure they'll call him up for Sunday's game.

Also, according to NHLPA.com his NHL salary is $500K.

I like this move for Vancouver. Ouelette's shown some promise and is still very young in goaltending age.

Good, good move by Nonis.

Nice move for the Nucks. Low risk could turn into a big reward in the future
