St Louis Blues (literally)

Just looked at the standings in the West and man is St Louis doing badly. I think they have made the play-offs for 20 years straight or something impressive, not this season at the rate they are going.

5 wins - 13 losses - 3 Ot - 13 points

Does anyone know why they are doing so badly. Their average goals against is 3.91, are they having issues with goaltending/defence, maybe they are missing pronger?

Just found it suprising to see such a consistently good team do so badly. The Caps aren't doing much better, lets hope that continues in our game tomorrow.

the blues had zero reason to believe in the slightest they could compete this season. the owners put the team up for sale because they couldn't land an nba franchise in st. louis when they first took over the blues and thus ended up losing a ton of cash on the blues. losses they further deepened with their spending which rarely got them past the first round and even rarer past the 2nd. a trim-down of payroll was ordered, and unlike some teams gm larry pleau wasn't allowed to really shop for bargains. so he was forced to literally scrape the barrel for free agents and acquisitions.

on top of all this the blues didn't buy out tkachuk and weight because they, like a lot of teams saw no reason to owe money to players who don't play for them anymore. so those 2 stay and pretty much everyone else who had value and a big salary goes and again little could be done to bring much in.

simply put they have no depth anywhere on their roster. they compete hard and usually play well in every game this season for stretches, but in all of their regulation losses they've had other stretches where depth would have been needed and since they don't have it everything snowballs on them.

when the blues get a new ownership in who has some financial flexibility as well as some quality draft prospects they will be alright.
