Well good thing I'm not a tv broadcaster for the Preds cause I would probably call out how our team's play suck right now or start yelling cuss words every time they screw up or lose.

Do good hockey commentators ever use the word activate or grade A chance?

What was the word that Crispy always used for a good scoring chance? Glorious?

Yeah let's not start acting like Pete and Terry are good, they're not.

Compared to Willy and Stu, they are top notch!

They may not be amazing, but I happened to catch one of Weber's goal calls from recently during a promo spot on the radio, and the distinction between what we have now and a legitimate play-by-play man was stark. I have no attachment to Weber or Crisp whatsoever, but the current television broadcast crew and most of the radio crew are an embarrassment.

Funny last night goal call on the radio made it sound like Smith scored.

At the game I listen to the radio and at the game I thought Smith scored. Only later on when I was on Twitter did I realize it was Josi with the deflection. I don't know how I missed Paul's goal announcement.

Because none of the guys noticed a deflection as it happened. I thought it might have been their defender it went off of and then watching the replay it was obvious it went off of Josi but how 4 guys, 2 of which have played in the NHL and 1 of which has called hockey for years missed this obvious deflection. I noticed it on TV so how is it possible that they can miss things the average every day fan can clearly see?

Pete is a great PBP man, along the lines of a Jeanerette or a Lang, or a Ken Cal. He's not in the same room as Nixon or Walton or Carroll.

And ANYONE is better than Wiedeman, or those horrid guys from C'bus.

I think some of you are so jaded you don't realize just how bad some other announcers are.

I was stuck listening to the Detroit radio broadcast the other night. I would *gladly* take Willy and Stu over the montone, identical and too-fast cadence of the Detroit radio team. I had to turn it off and get my 102.5 app out so I could listen to Pete/Brent.

Tone maybe they are ok, lack of knowledge is what gets us. Willy does not know hockey and continues to make himself look like a fool each game.

I'm surprised you weren't blacked out from it.

An icing penalty? What's that?

off the actual subject, but speaking of icing calls, there had to be 3-4 at least last night that were waived off (both sides) that I didn't understand at all.

And last night Stu said during a review of the game goals (2:42 left in third) "That stands up as the game tying goal .... Flames lead Nashville one one with less than 3 minutes to play". I had to replay it and put on closed caption, even the cc could not believe it and interpreted it as "Flames versus Predators 1 1 ...."

Listening to Stu is like watching paint dry. Very dull. At least listening to Pete and Terry was interesting/entertaining to listen to.

I had a great summary of my feelings on this written for this thread yesterday, then my almighty corporate network crapped out and I lost it <sigh>
I was actually disappointed to hear all the games were going to be on FS TN, knowing these guys would be doing the PBP, and even owning Center Ice/Gamecenter would not allow me to hear the other team's broadcast. Thats how bad it is for me.
Willy has improved over the course of this season, he is trying at least. I can tell he is making efforts. Still much to learn, but I've heard much worse.
Then there is the Grim Speaker TM. His tortured sentences (nearly as tortured as those who hear them). The repetition that even drives my wife nuts (who is not even really paying attention to be honest). The inane catchphrases (like the 'insurance marker' on a 2 goal lead in the 1st period, 'strong bids', 'smart play', etc.) I could go on ad nauseum. In fact, just thinking this post through made me throw up a little in my mouth.

I still don't mind Willy, but blessed Stu is awful. I like Chris Mason though.

Had to listen to the Chicago game on radio, I had no idea who was in net for Chicago, Pete said Crawford a few times and Darling a few times.

yeah trig, I can listen to Wily, he's growing as a pbp guy. even though he's hazy on the technical basics of the game, he's trying and does a decent job, one I can live with.

but stu. i'm sure he's a nice enough guy, but he's an absolute disaster as an analyst. the guy truly has no concept of the game except the grinders roles and his delivery is beyond painful to listen to and so repetitive. replace stu with someone decent and I can live with it.

I have to think they're grooming Chris Mason to take over for Stu in the near future.

Brent Peterson. We will also need a Pete replacement in the next 3 years or so.
