interesting ...I think Mo & Savard are pretty similar players
I think I like Mo better though...Saverd is a pretty brutal career +/- ..sure it's part of his teams, but still...

This deal would leave the Canucks short one starting goalie though..

plus I just looked at salaries, and DeVries for $2.3? ... yeeee, no thanks.

Atlanta fans aren't going to like this. Savard is doing much more for them than Morrison could, and I don't think the Hawks can afford to give up a D. They have goaltending too, it's just not healthy. I think they're better off just waiting for the injuries to heal.

and either can Vancouver.

it's not just salary... we'd have to replace goaltending, and that adds up... and there's no way the team adds that kind of contract on defense, while already having Jovo and Ohlund in the fold.

Besides, Savard isn't exactly a good defensive center... that's what the canucks need to play with the top line. Mo is easily and above average defensive player - the canucks best 2-way center, and one of the better PKers... Savard does nothing to replace that, and that's what this team needs more than any offense Savard brings over Mo.

No and no. Savard leads the teams in scoring and DeVries he been our best Dman.

What do the Canucks want for Ohlund?

Kovalchuk!

seriously though... Ohlund is about as untouchable as it gets for the canucks... he's our #1 dman, and isn't going anywhere... he will finish his contract with the canucks (signed to a new 3yr deal this season), and has a good chance of continuing past that.

Ohlund is core, and there's no way the canucks move him, without getting as big an impact player back... and that's especially more so given Jovo's contract status.

I like it, Auld has clearly shown an ability to be a #1 in the league over the past couple weeks, so the Canucks can afford to give up Cloutier and not get any goaltending in return.

Furthermore, although Cloutier has had injury problems of late, this shouldn't bother Atlanta since the other goalies in their system have been pretty robust this season.

DeVries would be an excellent fit on the Canucks, $2.3M is a bit pricy for a guy who would be the #3 or #4 defenseman, but with their excess of cap space the Canucks will certainly be able to afford it.

Forward this to Dave Nonis and Don Waddell ASAP, I think we have a slam dunk on our hands.

In terms of just salary, Vancouver frees up space in this deal. They ship out $5.7 million or so and take back just $4.8 million. The whole "we're trading Cloutier and hitching our wagon to Auld for the playoffs" idea is much more risky.

I like this trade.....

I really do!

We could easily net another goalie from say... Buffalo?
