GDT 12/03/05 Flyers at Predators

Flyers think they can come in here and steal my mojo? I don't think so!

Playing one of the top teams in the league with an injury-riddled lineup?

What's up, biggest test of the year?

See in this morning's litterbox liner that Forsberg and Esche are out. Forsberg, a noted Pred-Killer...that makes me happy, but I'd rather face Esche than Niitymaki, to be honest.

Also see that Markov and Johnson are still out, though at this point I almost don't mind Johnson being out, because it seems more and more that Smithson is faster, stronger and all around BETTER than what Johnson has become.

Forsberg and Esche out for Philly....so both teams not at full strength.

Our PP better be on tonight because we are going to have trouble keeping the puck deep with their blueline size. They still have a lot of speed of front.
Anxious to see Carter, Richards, Sharp, and Umberger play.

Should be a fun game to watch.

johnson and markov were both in fact put on the IR,with a backdating of the date to when their injuries happened,(which gets around the 7 day minimum IR requirement and makes them eligible to come off the IR anyday)...both are still listed as day to day...allison will also miss tonight's game again... but trotz was quoted as saying there would be no further callups right now...so we see zanon again, in fact we see the exact same lineups as the MINN game, since those are the only 18 skaters we have.

tough game coming for us here. the closest i can think of as a match in the west to this team is LA. lots of strength, with a sprinkling of speed and a great top line. these type of power teams generally get tons of offensive zone time against us and lots of shots of course. we have to use our speed as a counterattack. we should be able to take advantage of their slower defensivemen and generate a few odd man rushes tonight, if we can break their cycling and get the puck to the releaseman... their pk has stunk all year too. if we can just ever get the puck away from them, our speed should be able to generate penalties, and if we generate penalties we should be able to solve their pk.. we have to beat this team on special teams or at least not get beat on them

one of those classic type battles though..east vs west, strength vs speed, offense vs defense, grind vs breakaway...

should be a really great game...can hardly wait to be there

Niittymaki has played better than Esche this season, he just hasn't had a chance to take the job and run with it. Esche has been inconsistent at best, and really has only managed one "very good" game. I don't want to sound like I'm glad Esche is hurt, because I'm not, but I do think it's good that the Flyers will be able to see what Niittymaki has as a starter, even for a short stint.

It's too bad Markov is out, I was looking forward to watching him play again.

Actually Esche, Forsberg, Primeau, and possibly Stevenson are out leaving the Flyers quite short handed. Look for the flyers to try to play a typical old fashioned road game with tight checking, a little trapping, and then cycling the heck out of the puck and getting chances from that and counter rushes. Should be an interesting game, at this point i'm just hoping the Flyers can make it through games without additional injuries because it seems that every game someone goes down.

easily, the answer has to be Hall & a prospect ... two of the new youngster footsoldiers are showing they belong (Upshall & Smithson)

We shouldn't trade Adam Hall, IMO. He's a clutch player and has been contributing a lot lately, in all aspects of the game. Any trade we make should only involve prospects and draft picks from our side.

Anyhoo...

Are you seriously wanting to trade away one of only two "big in front of the net" kind of guys that we have?

That doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Yes, because Walker doesn't play like a ***** like Joe Thornton does ... and Hartnell is the other one that goes to the front of the net ... we need to upgrade our forward corp, period

Okay so you are saying that we should trade away one of the most versatile players and one of our prospects that are “showing they belong in the NHL” because we have so many injuries.

It still doesn’t make sense to trade the depth that is keeping your team in the win column just because we have some injuries. I guess I just don’t understand what it is that you think the problem is that we need to fix.

Of all the forwards, I would trade Erat.....and I would much rather keep Hall than Erat.

The Flyers are terrible on the PK, we have to take advantage of that. In other words, play smart guys! Thank goodness Forsberg isn't coming to play tonight, I still have nightmares of his 6 point performance at the GEC (coincidentally it was also the first minutes Finley got in a game......as he came in to replace Vokoun.)

"terrible" is quite the compliment the way the Flyers PK has played.

I've always hoped for a 3rd line that looked like

Hartnell-Hall-Segal

granted Segal might not make it to the NHL. but I can hope.

I am really hoping that next year we try an Upshall - Hall - Radulov line.

Why not pick up Van Damme as a goalie?

I was talking about Brandon Segal, unless you knew that and I'm not catching the sarcasm

anyway I've just always thought that would be an awesome checking line.

I'm also open to a line with Rads and Upshall on it.

I really like the Flyers overall, so I'm really excited to see how the Preds do against them tonight.

One thing is for sure, ya'll better get the arena rocking tonight

yeah, I read on a Minny Wild board elsewhere that "it was like some frat party in there or something"

I love hearing those funny long winded chants coming through on the tv.
