I have always favored an eight-team playoff for one big reason: you could then give each power conference champion an automatic berth.

Remember that last year, TCU and Baylor were both kept out of the playoffs largely because they didn't play in a conference championship game at all. And the team that had far and away the worst loss among the one-loss teams (Ohio State at home to a 6-6 Virginia Tech team) managed to get into the playoff picture.

I don't see how, given the choice of one unbeaten and four one-loss teams, a bad loss by Oklahoma to Texas would count against them. I definitely don't see how Ohio State couldn't be penalized for not playing in a conference championship game. If the scenario from last year took place five or ten years ago, that would be one thing; since it happened just a year ago and the committee making the selections is basically the same as it was then, to dismantle their own arguments from then for this year would be the height of absurdity.
Your b.s. is the same as mine; except yours has the anti-OSU bias.

If the goal is, as has been stated, to put the 4 best teams in, Ohio St has to be considered imo.

Eh, I think OSU screwed the pooch when they lost at home to MSU. When you only have 2 ranked teams on your schedule, you need to win those games.

I see how it is. When I speak truth about OSU basketball, it's all "let's have a discussion". When I speak truth about OSU football, it's all "trolling" and "bs".

On a combination of resume and record, the only way that OSU gets into the playoff would have to be based on the following:
- Bammer loses tonight to Auburn, Mississippi State beats Ole Miss, and Florida State beats Florida. This would mean a two-loss SEC champion, with no one else having less than three losses. It would put even the SEC champion on the bubble.
- Clemson would have to lose the ACC championship to North Carolina. UNC has been up and down, and despite their 11-1 record, they've been largely unimpressive. And their one loss is the worst in the field, to a 3-9 South Carolina team. This would put the ACC champion on the bubble.
- Oklahoma State over Oklahoma would knock the latter out of the top four, but may not be enough to push OK State solidly in. Oklahoma has a quality non-conference win against Tennessee. Anyway, this puts the Big 12 champion on the bubble.
- Stanford would have to beat Notre Dame; this would knock out the Irish. A two-loss Stanford team would be on the bubble anyway; a loss next week in the Pac-12 title game would mean a three-loss conference champion, keeping that conference out.
- Houston is too little, too late in the AAC no matter what; they're out.

Anyway, this would mean the committee picking four teams from among a 12-1 Clemson team that lost in the ACC championship game, a 12-1 UNC team that won the ACC but had a loss against a 3-9 South Carolina team, a two-loss SEC champion, a 12-1 Iowa team that lost in the B1G title game, a 12-1 Michigan State team that won the B1G, a one-loss Big 12 champion that didn't play a conference championship game, a one-loss Ohio State team that didn't play in a conference championship because they didn't even make it there, and a three-loss Pac-12 champion. That's eight teams to choose from.

I'll point out that the handful of times that the BCS title game featured a team that didn't win their conference were all enormously controversial with one exception. They were:
- 2001 - Nebraska didn't play in the Big 12 championship game at all; Pac-10 champion Oregon was left outside.
- 2003 - Oklahoma was destroyed in the Big 12 championship game (won by Kansas State); Pac-10 champion USC was left outside.
- 2011 - Alabama didn't play in the SEC championship game at all and had lost to their opponent (LSU) during the regular season; Big 12 champion Oklahoma State was left outside. And I'll mention that I was one of the people who believed that Oklahoma State should have gotten in; their one loss came less than 24 hours after a plane crash that killed the women's basketball coach, and the Cowboys playing completely flat was expected after a nearly unprecedented tragedy.
- 2012 - As an independent, Notre Dame didn't play in a title game. This was the one where there was no controversy at all, since they were the only unbeaten team left.

Bama 15.5 favorite

score a 30 yard touchdown just trying to run the clock out with 30 seconds left to go ahead 29-13

many cheering, others puking in Vegas

Some say that if you go outside and put your hand to your ear facing south, you can still hear Wil Muschamp cussing at an official.

A .740 winning percentage just doesn't cut it anymore. Although its still all about the student-athelete. Must have been the graduation rate.

I heard he made them do push-ups when they gave up a touchdown in the red zone

And the best team of the non-Power 5 conferences an automatic berth. That still gives you two slots for at-large and independents (Notre Dame, BYU, etc.)

Sixten Boström, the Finnish assistant coach of the Crew has brought his touch of Midas to Columbus. There is surely a friendly competition going on between Jarmo Kekäläinen and Boström about who will bring the more trophies to Columbus.

I don't watch soccer much, but I did watch the Crew last night and towards the end I felt like I was watching the Jackets trying to protect a lead in their infancy. That was too close for comfort and would have been an epic meltdown. Hopefully they'll win the title here in town.

I saw upper bowl tickets starting about $150 earlier today on Stubhub. Glad I bought mine a couple of weeks ago. That should be a great event on Sunday.

I'll just leave this here...

(not that tOSU's strength of schedule is that much better - the same number of unranked, only two ranked teams, one beaten one lost to, but those teams are ranked just a tad higher...)
