What is Volchenkov's

nickname? I know it starts with an A, but besides that I don't know. Both me and my sister ( an Ottawa fan) thinks it is different.

The Sens have actually started a new marketing plan around Volchenkov and the "A-train" nickname, so I think it's the name that's going to stick.Although I was partial to "The A- Bomb" myself.

A-Bomb? It sounds like a massive fart.

I thought it was interesting to see that Volchenkov is now heavier than he was last year. He's been listed by the Sens at 237 lbs, up from 225. At 6'1 he's still growing and should fill out some more.

Sounds like a massive fart... how juvenile. A-Train is the nickname of Bears RB Antony Thomas. It would be like Gaborik calling himself The Answer or Bertuzzi calling himself The Truth. Besides, Anthony Thomas sucks ass, thus it has bad connotations for Anton. A-Bomb brings images of a destructive force. A REALLY cool commercial would be to see Volchenkov laying into someone for a check and then the opponent explodes in a mushroom cloud. Then the commercial says "The Russian A-Bomb has been unleashed".

A-Train implies he has no lateral movement - that he can only go in one direction. A-Bomb signifies explosive power. I prefer A-Bomb.

references to WMD probably dont make such great marketing campaigns. i'm guessing thats why A-Train was ultimately chosen

I disagree. The cold war is long over (i'm not sure what WMD stands for - World Massive Distruction?) so its not really an issue. I think it would be really cool to see something like - "The Maple Leafs have attacked our defensive zone - its time to unleash the A-Bomb!!" Then you see Volchenkov knocking over Leafs then you end with something humouros like Volchenkov saying "I kick ass" (which would sound funny with Anton saying it).

I thought it was A-Bomb, my sister thought it was A-Train. I guess we were both right. By the way, good luck this season (not that you'll need it). I hope the sens win the cup because I know Pittsburgh wont this year.

Officially its A-Train (that's what the ottawa media calls him) A-Bomb is my personal preference and is more commonly used here on HFBoards. I mainly dislike A-Train since someone else already has that nickname (Anthony Thomas of the Bears).

Isn't A-Train the name of a fat, hairy wrestler?

You've really put a lot of thought into this, haven't you?

He is probably my favourite player on the sens (except maybe Hossa) so I don't want him to have a crappy nickname.

That was his nickname in Russia I believe, I love that one as well, even more than A-Bomb. Its similar to Havlat who used to be called Hurricane Havlat back in Czech Rep, which I prefer over Mach 9.
