??? this makes no sense for Philly.

EDIT: Thinking it over, not that bad of a deal.

Sharp>Ellison

but, Philly does get a 3rd.. fine deal.

What have I missed with Ellison?

This looks like a nice deal for the 'Hawks.

Anyone have any opinions of Sharp?

Ellison is a hard working playmaker who is good defensively. He'll never crack the top two lines, but with luck he'll be a 3rd liner. He's been doing pretty good offensively... something like 13 points so far.

In my opinion, Sharp is nothing to be excited about. Dime a dozen.

Sharp is a good skater, decent shot, pretty good in his own zone. He's got a good chance to develop into a good two-way center, 3rd liner type.

Strange for Chicago to trade for Sharp now, he's "day-to-day" with a concussion/head injury.

Strange trade, seem to be two similar players with no apparent difference in potential.

Nice to get a 3rd rounder for Meloche though.

Flyer fans, I think you will like Ellison. Has tremendous hockey sense, and actually was one of Yawney's favorite players at norfolk, and up here in Chicago.

He cannot finish, if he could- he would have 4-5 more goals as I'm not joking he's missed that many open nets and fanned on probably a 1/2 dozen more. If he ever finds a way to bury those chances, he'll be a nice player.

I do follow the flyers a bit, and think Sharp is a nice player. But does he have any chance of being a top 6 forward? Or is he an AHL star that just hangs around on the 4th line?

As an Isles fan, all I can say is good ridance.
Sharp has 5 goals on the season, 4 against the Isles.

Sharp will serve as a sufficient third liner and an excellent 4th liner.

I am a Flyers fan and I really like this trade from a Philly perspective.

Sharp is a natural center and since Philly is already stacked down the middle with Forsberg, Richards, Primeau, Handzus and Carter, getting a natural winger like Ellison is good management of resources.

Ellison is also two years younger and has out scored Sharp in the NHL this year. I think we got the better offensive player albeit Sharp is quite capable defensively. Last year in the AHL, both players scored at a similar pace so I am quite happy with Ellison.

Considering Umberger had easily moved past Sharp on the depth chart, I'd say he was already here to stay.

I don't know much about Ellison, but I imagine the same.

Sharp will excel in Chicago provided he gets ice time

I liked Patrick Sharp alot, but I do agree with Clarke that Patrick always played better when he was at center, and that just isn't something he's going to do as a Flyer.

Can't say that I know too much about Ellison, but he is younger than Sharp, which is a plus, and Chicago's won't be making the playoffs, so their 3rd round pick will be early. Just another chip to help us make a big move in the draft.

Flyers now have 7 picks in the first 3 rounds.

He's better than a 4th liner. Good speed, nice hands, and is defensively aware. Can certainly play on a 3rd line.

I've always thought Sharp had some decent potential. Philly's lineup in front of him was so stacked that it was hard for him to fit in anywhere I think, so I guess from their perspective they know what they want from Ellison.

Good for both teams.

Which I imagine he will. I see Sharp as a player who wouldn't have been able to develop in Philli, but just may get the chance to do so in Chicago. Philli gets a pick out of it, everyone is happy.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Sharp seems to really have our number--good thing he's stuck in Chicago now!

I think I finally found something I like about reduced inter-conference play

How physical, if at all, is Ellison. I just hope the Flyers aren't getting even more softer with this. I know Sharp isn't a fighter, but he'll defend himself and teammates, especially in a brawl. He's a chippy player.
