Hardly. He missed a bunch of games in 03-04 with back spasms.

Flyers Notes | Esche's injury may not be too bad

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/spo...l/13324118.htm

"Flyers trainer Jim McCrossin cautioned yesterday that just because goalie Robert Esche is to be tested tomorrow for a sports hernia, that doesn't necessarily imply the worst-case scenario.

In fact, McCrossin said Esche felt "real good" yesterday. The Flyers believe what is really bothering Esche is what they see on the MRI - a small tear in his right groin.

"The clinical sign is it's an adductor strain [groin pull], but he has pain in the abdominal area and I want to rule that [hernia] out," McCrossin said.

Esche will be evaluated by William Meyers of Hahnemann University Hospital. Meyers consulted on Donovan McNabb's sports hernia surgery.

"Meyers said in 90 percent of goaltenders, it's adductor," McCrossin said. "The MRI showed a minor tear."

Esche figures to miss anywhere from a week to a month, depending upon whether he requires surgery. "

6, but 8 if you include Randy Jones and Freddy Meyer, both of whom I would play ahead of Therien at this point. More if you include players that probably should eb out to rest nagging injuries like Johnsson's groin, Richards' wrist, and Handzus' everything.

Patrick Sharp:
Patrick Sharp, who left Saturday night's game after taking a blow to the right side of his forehead, was scheduled to be examined by team doctor Gary Dorshimer on Sunday, but Hitchcock said he wouldn't have an update on his player until today.

Peter Forsberg:
There is no change in the status of Peter Forsberg (right groin pull). He will continue to miss games...
Forsberg skated on his own Sunday and is scheduled to do so again today. Hitchcock said "he's not yet ready to rejoin the team.''

Turner Stevenson:
Turner Stevenson pulled right hip muscle) skated and might play tomorrow.

Keith Primeau:
Hitchcock disclosed he had an encouraging conversation with Keith Primeau. The Flyers' captain, now in his fifth week recovering from a concussion, had a "very good day" and said he believes the recent work he's done with a doctor in North Carolina to improve his balance has given him cause for optimism.

Thanks for update, great stuff on Primeau maybe after Olympic break? Forsberg oh oh oh oh. "no change status" - bad news.

Listening to WIP at work and Glen Macnow called in with an injury update. He said Esche will be out 5-6 Weeks, Forsberg has a possible groin tear now and will be out for atleast another week, and Joni Pitkanen is going for an MRI later this afternoon, didn't hear what the MRI was for but no matter what its not good at all.

Joni Pitkanen:
He has a hip flexor, groin issue right now. Were just checking him out just making sure we know what it is. Hes been able to play with it for a week now and its been ok, but this gives us a chance to look at it. Were not really sure if this is going to be day-to-day or he can just continue to play, but we need to get defined information on it, so well know tomorrow morning.

Next game:
Right now were assuming that the same lineup that played in Nashville is going to play. If Joni cant play, they we talked to the Phantoms and wed look at Freddy Meyer. Dennis is still a week away from being ready. Were looking at the same forward crew. If we keep with the same group then well probably have to bring up Ben Eager again to play.

That's 7-9 players injured, almost half a team

I just read that all too. It's interesting to see that they had Carter centering Gagne and Knuble. I'd like to see him play on that line for a game or 2. It's time to see what the kid can do while Forsberg is out.

I have a waiver wire question someone may be able to answer. A player is put on waivers, he is not claimed and sent to the minors. Can a team put in a waiver claim and claim while in the minors or do they have to wait until he is called up and claim him on the rebound? Terrible news about Pitkannen and Forsberg. They need to let them heal completely and dont force them back. Hopefully they can stay afloat and dont fall to far behind.

The only "good" news about these rash of injuries is that they're happening early in the season. Better to have the injury bug now than just before or going through the playoffs.

It's not so much that they're practicing wrong as they are working out wrong. Yes, it's important to lift weights, but McCrossin should be putting them through hardcore stretching exercises. Now might be a good time to invest in a serious Yoga instructor for the Flyers.
