You forget that during the Olympics, there's actually another 2 weeks off for most players! Right before the final rush to the playoffs you are referring to.
I realize that many Habs will actually be at the games though (Koivu, Kovy, Zed, Markov, Streit, among others).
But coaches and trainers are also now adjusting the training/practice regimens to better fit with the schedules. The faster pace of the game and the resulting plethora of groin and abdominal injuries has also forced them to revise training methods.
There may still be injuries because of of the tight schedule (knock on wood) but that the rash of what you see now should be very much reduced as coaches adjust to the new realities of hockey this season.
Bottom line, this week off comes at an opportune moment for the Habs and all the little booboos that need healing. Plus Kovy misses less games.
Though it's crap for my fix of watching habs on TV/attending games at the Bell center. Going into major withdrawal already....
