He's a Red Wing so I hate the guy, of course, but that was a classy move. You know it would have been really hard to not invite Yzerman, and while he is one of the top playters/captains in the history of the game, there are just too many good young Canuckers to have him on the roster. At the very least, it was a stand-up gesture that saves the Great One a very uncomfortable situation.

I still hate the guy, but he gets some respect for that.

Yeah, I heard the same thing. I consider them slightly different cases, though, since I think Lemieux can still contribute at a higher level than Yzerman. But you're right- at this point he should probably step aside, too, to make room for young guns like Iginla, the Tampa trio, Heatley, Staal, Crosby, Nash, Thornton, Doan, Marleau, Spezza, etc [even possibly a rejuvenated Kariya or Lindros?]. Would also be good for him to have the Olympic break to rest up for a second half push.
