  • Coach Andy Murray said after Wednesday's practice that Mathieu Garon would start in goal tonight
  • After going 11 games without scoring a goal and 17 games without scoring a point, Dustin Brown had a two-goal night during the Kings' 2-1 victory over the Maple Leafs.
  • The Kings will visit rinks in six cities, including Simi Valley and Valencia, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday as part of a program to reach out to fans and youth hockey players.

Quotable:

"It would be a travesty if I'm not…. I know they want a youth movement, and they need to have one, but it'd be disrespectful of the guys who have gotten Team USA to this point internationally. They better hope that I don't get a job as a commentator on NBC for [the Games], or it'd be 'Go Canada' all the way, and I don't want that." - Jeremy Roenick on whether or not he'll be representing USA at the Winter Olympics in February

"I saw that on TV. I gave him a big hug [Tuesday]. It was our first moment in three years. It was nice." - Sean Avery talking about Andy Murray's comments on television. Murray said Avery was a 'great hockey player.'

"We've kind of been lucky to have J.R. and Avery around the last little while because the attention has been on what they say and not how we've played." - Craig Conroy

Carolina has a horrid PK. Too bad we can take advantage of it.

These threads are one of the exact reasons why I chose this site to take part in. Amazing! Thanks!

I'm leaving for the game soon. Should be a good one; the two teams are a decent match up, record-wise.

Kings 4, Canes 2.

________________________________
Tonight's game is the first of three straight at STAPLES Center for the Los Angeles Kings. After tonight's 7:30 p.m. contest against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Kings will play host to the Florida Panthers on Saturday afternoon (December 10) at 1 p.m. and the Washington Capitals on Wednesday evening (December 14) at 7:30 p.m.

The Kings, with a record of 17-11-1, are in second place in the Pacific Division and in sixth place in the Western Conference.

The Hurricanes, with a record of 17-8-2, are in first place in the Southeast Division and in third place in the Eastern Conference.

Lifetime series vs Carolina

The Los Angeles Kings are 28-23-10 (includes eight ties) in 61 all-time meetings with the Carolina Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers franchise and 17-10-3 (includes no ties) in 30 all-time home games in the series.

The Kings are 4-1-3 (includes one tie) against the Hurricanes with Andy Murray as their head coach and they'll take a seven-game unbeaten in regulation streak (4-0-3, includes one tie) into tonight's contest. They've also beaten the Hurricanes three straight times at STAPLES Center outscoring the Hurricanes, 14-to-5, in the three games.

Luc Robitaille has averaged almost a goal a game against the Carolina/Hartford franchise. The future Hall-of-Famer has three career four-goal games, and two of the four-goal virtuoso performances were recorded against tonight's opponent when it called Hartford home.

Robitaille, who has 59 points (34-25=59) in 42 career games against Carolina/Hartford, collected his first career four-goal game against Hartford on February 6, 1992. He notched his third career four-goal game against Hartford on February 16, 1995.

Jeremy Roenick ranks second on the Kings with 29 points (17-12=29) in 33 career games against Carolina/Hartford. Pavol Demitra (15 GP, 4-9=13) is the only other player on the Kings roster to have amassed double-digit totals against the franchise during his career.

Kings goalie Mathieu Garon shut out the Hurricanes in his one career appearance against them. He blanked them with 33 saves in a 4-0 win on March 13, 2003. Garon was a member of the Montreal Canadiens at the time.

Ray Whitney leads the Hurricanes with 30 points (13-17=30) in 36 career games against the Kings. Rod Brind'Amour is next on the list with 23 points (9-14=23) in 27 career games and Cory Stillman is third with 22 points (11-11=22) in 32 career games against the Kings.

Carolina defenseman Frantisek Kaberle, selected by the Kings in the third-round (76th overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, has two points (1-1=2) in seven career games against the team that drafted him. He also has nine points (all assists) in 37 career games with the Kings with all 37 games logged during the 1999-00 season.

Goalie Martin Gerber is 0-1-0 in one career appearance against the Kings, having allowed four goals in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Kings while skating with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on January 28, 2004.

Not that Garon's had to make any tough saves yet but just by his movements he's looking confident.

Great Shot by Cole.

Looks like Marouelli's trying to his best to steal the show.

The Kings are doing their best to prove that they're still the same team from the majority of the road trip, not the one that looked to be getting it together in Toronto. Why am I not at all surprised with the special teams so far? Do DT and AM except them to just fix themselves?

Ah yes, "The System". Is it any wonder why the Monarchs are ranked 26th of 27 teams on the PP and 18th of 27 on the PK?

The "fix" I was referring to was firing some or all of the coaching staff. I doubt player changes would make any difference. As mentioned, it's the "system."
