This site probably blew up because of this deal. Disgraceful on the B's part!

KB, and all the other Monarch posters....i'm sorry.

San Jose wins this by a long mile, no matter what people say. Makes me sad that he goes to that boring *** city.....even worse is that we have to deal with him now.

OK hang on. I'll be Devil's Advocate here.

San Jose DOES gain one of the best players in the league...BUT they gave up a top pairing dman and a top line forward, as well as a depth player who has played well this year.

Both Sturm and Stuart are hugely underrated talents. IMO Stuart should be getting perennial consideration for Canadian teams, but no one knows him because he was on WC for his whole career...I'm sure all Kings fans can relate to this!!

OK so look at Boston now. Added a lot of depth. Can play Zhamnov and Boyes up the middle. Solid on the wings with Sturm, Murray, Samsonov, Isbister, Bergeron and Axelsson. Top 6 dmen: Stuart, Leetch, Gill, Boynton, Tanabe and Moran. Probably 2nd best top 6 in the league (behind Calgary).

Who does San Jose have up front now? Thornton, Marleau and Cheechoo. Will Michalek pan out? How much can Dimitrakos, Ekman, McCauley, Goc and Scott Thornton really contribute? All solid depth players. That's about it. They were already low on depth up front after losing Damphousse, Ricci and Brown in the offseason and not replacing them.

Either way, there are a lot of interesting questions to be answered over the next 60 games. If Jumbo Joe finds his game, we are in trouble. You also have to consider that Marleau, Joe, Nabokov will be making big money in the next couple years. Having more than one or two franchise players is suddenly unaffordable (re: St.Louis).

Is San Jose a better team? Probably, but we'll see.

Someone once said that the team that gets the best player wins the trade. If that is the case here SJ is a lot better.

I dont care what anyone says, its a HORRIBLE deal for the Bruins and a great deal for San Jose. If i was a Bruins fan i would be pissed off beyond anything. If the Bruins had gotten Marleau i could have justified this deal for Boston.

I would not be happy either...Joe is a superstar.

Agreed.

Wilson made it sound like he had to give up to get. But I highly doubt most fans and GM's around the league think the same. Boston got hosed...end of story!

Don't want him. Younger and hungrier is the way to go. Not someone looking for a free lunch ticket....same goes for Blake.
I agree with the assesment though. The team is probably more in shock than any of us.
I watched TSN (Avs - Canucks) in between periods, and they interviewed Joe T's agent. He was saying that Joe wanted to stay in Boston because of his teammates and such. Also said that Joe was still in shock on the whole deal.

Why would we want Murray back? I agree that we need to go younger.

Not that we would, but I think DT still likes him, and could possibly make a deal for him.

What about Jiri Slegr? If the Bruins are gutting their team.... He's pretty good on the PP.

I think this move also frees up enough cash to resign Samsonov at the end of the season. While Boston hands down gave up the best player in the deal, the Bruins got a great return. Marco Sturm is a very underrated winger, and could still put up 30 goals. Stuart is probably the prize of the deal to Boston however. Primeau will add some grit. I thought losing Scatchard was a bad move by Boston at the time, but with Primeau in the lineup as well as Tanabe, it'll work out for the B's in the end.

I think SJ got a great player in Thornton, but he wont have a surrounding cast to get him anywhere. I think SJ could afford to give up Stuart with their depth on D, but Im surprised they moved Sturm. He was their best winger, and would have been a good line combo with Thornton. I think depth up front will have to come in the offseason to support their 2 big guys up the middle.

When we have Dempsey and Corvo already?

I'd rather have Leetch or Boynton.

The B's aren't done with the firesale. Samsonov, Murray, and any impending FA is going to get dealt for young and cheap players and picks. No way either of them sign a deal with the Bruins after they dealt Big Joe, the face of the franchise that this team was supposed to be built around.

The writing was on the wall when the B's said they only wanted a 3 year deal with him last summer.

And if he's available, I suggest you poolies pick up Cheechoo right now. He's going to be riding shotgun with Joe, and that means lots of points.

JJ is NOT going to pay one player on a team he owns close to the individual CAP salary. When Thornton signed the 3-yr $20mil deal I resigned myself to the idea that short of the Bruins walking away with their Division and Joe being in the top 5 in scoring, he was gone...

MOC got totally bent over in this deal and I can't help but wonder if dealing Thornton was a way for him to deflect the blame for the lousy performance of the team HE put together. He was supposedly in a great position with respect to flexibility to assemble a team that would compete in the new NHL. The team HE assembled failed miserably...

The Bruins organization, from JJ down, is a complete joke at this point. Ray Bourque should run as far away from them as quickly as he can...
