GDT: Carolina @ LA 12/8/05

@

Sorry this is so late- my cold has decided to knock me on my *** again. But dont worry, the car flag will fly when I go to class tonight, I promise.

This is the only matchup against the Kings during the regular season this year. I am excited about getting to see JR, I love him. He is hoping to prove to Laviolette that he deserves to be on Team USA.
Quote:
Roenick was asked whether he expects to be chosen. "I better be," the King center said. "It would be a travesty if I'm not…. I know they want a youth movement, and they need to have one, but it'd be disrespectful of the guys who have gotten Team USA to this point internationally." Roenick, who turns 36 on Jan. 17, said if he isn't chosen, "they better hope that I don't get a job as a commentator on NBC for [the Games], or it'd be 'Go Canada' all the way, and I don't want that."
(from LA Times)

The Kings seemed to have hit a rough patch in their game lately, and this begins a 4 game homestand for them so no doubt they will be happy to be back home. And of course we get to see the infamous Avery in action tonight. If you have seen any of the stuff JR says about Avery (and vice-versa) its hilarious. The best quote I could find about it:
Quote:
"We've kind of been lucky to have J.R. and Avery around the last little while because the attention has been on what they say and not how we've played," Kings' center Craig Conroy said.
Our game against the Ducks Tuesday night was amazing, and hopefully with another day off before this game will continue to give them the rest that they need. LA Times has Garon starting in net tonight.

In all probability, yes ... Gerber will get the start. Young Ward has struggled several times of late and Carolina's on a bit of a slide so they'll go with the guy they think gives them the best chance to win barring other circumstances.

Good luck tonight. It's always a great thrill to see teams from the other conference, since it happens so rarely (especially now... thanks a lot, Bettman). I'm excited to get a good look at Eric Staal.

2-0 Canes. I hate not being able to actually watch games

I guess I don't see him often enough... but does he ever look happy?

Every time I see him score a goal he just looks so serious

Cole is one of those guys, like me, that's intense as he can be when he's playing and concentrating. It doesn't hit him immediately on the ice, but I can bet you he's grinning ear to ear when he lays down in bed tonight and thinks about the game. His focus makes him intense, which makes him valuable.

K, my internet connection isn't so horrid right now so I can listen to the game for a short while. Wow, 3 penalties in the row but it's 3-0

Ah, I haven't heard Chuck Kaiton in about 2 years. Truly music to my ears

..connection starting to drop...

That's how it was in Anaheim as well.

Though I think Whitney may have flipped with LaRose in the last few shifts. Or it could have been a partial line change.

ugh, they let the Kings get right back into it. Gerber is going to have to steal another one for us from the sounds of it.

And that he did because we were definitely dominated in that 3rd period. Didn't help that the refs were trying to give the Kings the game there.

I hope Williams, Wesley, and Cole are ok :/

And he did, with a very determined Rod Brind'Amour leading the way for the fowards.

What happened to Williams....I didn't get a chance to check the game. What type of injury or problem did he have. I hope its not anything too long as he is really starting to pick up his game!

Wesley got a puck near face neck area, Williams didn't come out for third period foot injury. Cole, seemed fine.

7pts out of 10pts in 5 road games.. I'll take it.

I thought we looked awesome in the 1st period. The 2nd period we also looked pretty good, but then again thats when my meds started kicking in, and I remember my roommate telling me to go to bed, so I missed the 3rd period. From what I am reading though, it seems like it was a pretty good thing I did!!!

On Williams injury:
Quote:
Not long after the goal, Williams took a shot in the foot. He tried to play on it but left the game for good five minutes into the second period. X-rays found no fracture, Carolina coach Peter Laviolette said, leaving open the possibility he'll be available Saturday.
And I am sad that I missed this:
Quote:
When Aaron Ward punched Brown in the face in front of the Carolina net on a Los Angeles power play with nine minutes to play, the Kings had 37 seconds of two-man advantage
Does this mean he is going to be suspended?

I doubt it. It was more of a push sort of thing, and he was only given a minor roughing.

A player gets suspended if he instigates a fight in the last 5 minutes of a game. A roughing call with 9 minutes to go is still safe, at least this year
