Flames/Pens proposal to get Palffy in Calgary

The Pens are nowhere near where they thought they'd be this year and need to focus on building a competetive team for their move. They have a severe weakness at defence. I wonder if the Flames could get Palffy for Leopold, Pelech and maybe a high draft pick. Would be nice if they'd take a Donovan or Wiemer as well.

To Pittsburgh: Jordan Leopold, Corey Pelech, 2nd rd pk, Jason Wiemer.
To Calgary: Ziggy Palffy, 5th rd pk.

Hey PapaBear,

Maybe the news didn't reach you:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/hocke...fy-signs_x.htm

Ziggy Palffy was an unrestricted FA, without compensation, before this season. Oh, and the second player in your trollish offer is Matt Pelech.

Wouldn't trade Leo str8 up for Palffy, and any Flames fan, who would even entertain such thoughts, should recuse himself.

Palffy for Warrener or Regehr. Too bad there's no point in trading him now for the Pens, they're going nowhere so they may as well go nowhere and keep him. Unless it's for one of those guys that is.

Ah no thanks, Flames will not trade either of those guys. Plus I don't think Pallfy is a guy Sutter will go after.

Warrener isn't going anywhere either, sutter locked him up over the summer for 3 years, and he's a lunchbox sutter favourite, not to mention, he's a ****ing ROCK on defense.

Ya cuz it's be a fair trade. I know Regeher might be a little much but you have to give to get so at least Warrener.

How the thread starter is still allowed to post here is beyond me.

He is one of the reasons there is a noticeable dearth of good discussion on this board anymore.

As per this thread, just lock it and move along.

Warrener is worth way more to the flames than he's given credit for.

Warrener is BY FAR our best penalty killing defenseman. 127 minutes on the PK so far this season.

To put this in perspective, Iginla, the third best penalty killing forward on the team has 50 minutes less ice time than warrener on the PK. Warrener plays roughly 65 percent more pk time than iginla.

He, and another poster on the Flames board, are refugees from CP. For proprietory reasons, it's not possible for me to reveal the reasons they're permitted, even encouraged, to lower the caliber of discussion. Think of it as like animals running wild.

You're not alone in that thinking.

What would we do with another goalie? We've already got 3 on one-way deals, have waived 2 of them in the past week, and the third we don't want to pay his $3 mil bonus.

First of all, Palffy is not worth a player of Regher callibre secondly why would Sutter want Palffy? If he makes a trade I would think he would go after a Center and I bet it happens really close to the trade deadline.

I agree, Rhett is so under rated its not even funny. Hes an absolute stud on the blueline. But the flames need him if they are to make the finals again. he is KEY!

The Flames have no reason to make a move right now with the way the team is playing. This is the way everyone expected them to play from the start of the season. They've found their groove and things are clicking. I don't see Sutter making any moves unless they make perfect sense.

Pittsburgh will not trade Palffy.

While Palffy would be awesome in Calgary, the Flames should not spend that much money on a RWer - they should rather put that money towards a legitimate #1 centre (or failing that, a LWer).

I do think, though, that the Pens should move Recchi at the deadline because he doesn't fit in as well long-term as Palffy and probably wants to end his career playing with a contender. At $2.3 million, his salary is very reasonable. He would look great on the Flames, and has looked pretty good playing centre and LW for the Pens this year, as well.

Counter proposal:

To Calgary: Recchi, 3rd rounder 2006
To Pittsburgh: Leopold

Recchi is worth a pick, and that's probably it. Def. not leopold.
