Immonen

Is this guy gonna get a chance in the bigs? What is his upside? I know he's having a nice year in the AHL this year....just wondering if he has NHL scoring line potential......thanks

2nd Line potential. Good chance he'll reach it IMO. He'll get called up when we get some injuries, next season he should be on the team full time.

Can anyone who's had a chance to really see him play tell me what they think of his skating? It was described as his only weakness, but he's been working on it all the time.

That's good Fly. I would like to hear some reports from folks who have seen some games. It would be great to get your take on guys like Dawes, Immonen, Genoway, etc. Happy Holidays.

i haven't seen a lot of him, but in general from finnish people who have seen him play, the impression i've gotten from them is that while he's not a world class skater, it's not a huge weakness and he doesn't lumber around the ice or something

ive seen him play. His skating is not amazing but its not a liability. Its average. However his hockey sense is great on the ice. He knows where to be and when to be it. Good passer. Has a great chance of being solid #2 line center for next season. Should get the call if we have a major injury down the middle.

In preseason..

Immonen seemed like a very good skater. Smooth and quick, from what I remember. Kept up with the preseason pro game very nicely. Don't recall him being blatantly out of position in those few games. Not sure if he's continued that, and hopefully he's only improved.

I personally thought the guy deserved a shot with the club out of the gate. Always seemed to be setting up shots and taking shots, and was defensively responsible. I think a knock is that he doesn't come to play everynight - I cannot comment on that since it's easy to come to 5 or 6 preseason games to make an impression. I think he has the skills and smarts to be an NHLer; I cannot attest to his drive and ambition though.

He's an average skater, which means he can keep up with NHL pace but he's not going to outskate the better skaters.

If his skating were better, his ceiling might be a little higher. But his potential right now is of a nice, second line center.

He's the fastest skater I've ever seen... named Immonen.

He have good top speed and have good agility. But his acceleration isn't up to pair, or its just his type of game. The result is that he isn't a center who is a big threat on the rush. Sometimes though he builds up great speed and can beat a collected D.
