Hasek question

Hi,

I'm a Red Wings fan, and when Dom Hasek was in Detroit, I hated him. He was terrible, clearly on the downside of his career, and when they won the Cup they won it in spite of him, not because of him.

Lots of hype about him this year, but ... How do you guys like him?

He is by far the best goaltender we have ever had and one of the best in the league right now and his numbers prove that.

I had thought Detroit won it in spite of him too.

He has let in some soft ones, and his wandering has been costly, but he can still make those saves and psyche out shooters.

I agree though, as a Sens fan, he is by far the best goaltender we have ever had, and he's top of the league stats wise. Behind a great defence

In spite of him?? So he did not out-duel Roy in the Conference Finals with 2 shutouts in Games 6 and 7??

Hasek was suffering from a groin pull(I think or some such ailment) during the Red Wings Stanley cup run. He subsequently had surgery and had a couple of years to recover. The point being that it appears his lackluster performance was more due to the injury then to age. He has been nothing short of amazing, although every game is punctuated with a head scratching "Hasekess" moment.

i'm also a detroit fan, and i also Don't think detroit won in spite of him. i've never even heard any detroit fan (or anyone else) say they did. W T F? he wasn't terrible at all. that's why holland re-signed him for 8m after already signing joseph for 8m.

didn't hasek set the record for playoff shutouts that yr?

many detroit fans think hasek should have got smythe. (i say yzerman, but happy w/ lidstrom)

i didn't think he was as good w/ detroit as he was w/ buffalo, but who ever was that good?

i haven't been able to see any ottawa games this yr, but i'm really glad he's playing up to his standards.

we can now see how great ottawa is w/ a goalie as good as the rest as the team.

Yeah man that's crazy. Hasek was one of the main reasons detroit won the cup. Just some crazy talk from a bitter wings fan. Hasek is the best goalie ever to play the game. Just checked his detroit stats. He was 41-15-8 with a 2.17 GAA and .915 sv% with 5 shutouts...my god those numbers are terrible!!!

I hope he works out in Ottawa.

If you watched the Red Wings run to the Cup, you'd be well aware the Red Wings played suffocating defense and basically saved Hasek's butt time and time again.

His shutouts against Colorado were not because he "out-duelled" Roy, they were because the Red Wings were simply amazing in front of him. He wasn't even called up on to make the "big save."

Anyway, I didn't come here to debate that. I came here to see what Sens fans thought of Hasek, because at this time in 2001, a lot of Red Wings were wondering what the heck they got themselves into.

Spoken like someone watching stats, not the games. Hasek was never considered a playoff MVP candidate by anyone, period, in 2002.

The point is, Hasek wasn't a legit challenger for it. Even Hull, Shanahan and Chelios were ahead on the MVP ladder.
