Pretty hard to estimate IMO where this isn't our FT job......now Chevy and his team should know those facts......not a bunch of keyboard GM's.

But I understand your point, I just feel that's harder to do.
Well people are projecting UFA's into the lineup. That's not any easier to do and all have ignored the ones coming into free agency in 2017. There's not much reality here IMO. There's far too many variables with two offseasons to come.

I agree that a guys like to Duclair coming back would be ideal, which means you gotta target teams that want to win now.

That's a good question. I really can't see any scenario where the Jets don't re-sign Mattieu.

Unless our GM procrastinates in contract negotiations or our GM wants to go with a youth movement.

I think Ehlers ends up playing his off wing eventually

Perrault Little Wheeler
Connor Scheifele Ehlers
Petan Lowry Burmistrov
Lemieux Copp Lipon

Trouba Byfuglien
Morrisey Myers
???? Kostalek

Hellebuyck
????

Ladd moved for futures and who knows what happens with those

Will bump in 2018 when I am vindicated ultimately

Upcoming UFA's can be realistically projected into a lineup, seeing as they have been available to re-sign since 7/1/15. However, a team that intends to re-up their 'pending' 2017 UFA, has to wait until 7/1/16 to show their hand.

Even the upcoming UFA's can be off the market at any time. It's just a fun exercise in futility. Let's talk Jets 'reality' on July 1st.

Ya, and I just decided to go with a few years away instead of next year as more guys come off the books. After reading all these posts it becomes clear that the direction will be clearer once they decide on Buff and Ladd. If you look at our lineup next year we really need them both as our prospects are scratching the surface but aren't quite there yet.

I can, another team overpays him, like Montreal. I also see Petan taking over his role as the PP puck mover, on the half wall.

I would re-sign Stafford because he fits into our core. Will come on the cheap (about $4 million per) and provides strong leadership for our future.

I think we re-sign Ladd. He likes it here, so does his wife. I think we trade Buff. If there is a team that needs him, it is Pittsburgh. They are thin on defense and toughness. I would trade Buff for Poiliot, Beau Bennett (a good straight line skater, who earned much praise on the Pens board, and would give us two Californians in the organization ironically), Pittsburgh's 2nd in 2016, and a conditional (either 1st or 2nd in 2017).

It would signify the end of our playoff chances but give us a chance to rebound quickly in 2016. I then draft Matthew Tkachuk with our 1st pick, and maybe trade up for a defenseman with our 2nd pick (Kate Clague?) to replace Enstrom who will be a free agent at the end of this year.

Starting roster

Ladd-Little-Ehlers
Stafford-Scheif-Wheeler
Petan-Lowry/De Leo-Bennett
Lemieux/Lowry (or Tkachuk)-Copp-Thorburn (if Mau is coaching I put money on him coming back)

Reserves: De Leo/Lowry, Lipon

Enstrom-Trouba (shutdown)
Morrissey-Myers (Myers can assume the offensive leadership role, and probably sport an A. Morrissey should be mature and steady in his 3rd pro season).
Poiliot-Chiarot (he will be an RFA and likely re-sgined)
Stuart as the 7th d (could be moved with a contract only paying $1.1 million, if one of our RHD pushes their way into the lineup.

Helleybuck
Lack (I would like a solid veteran backup)

MOOSE

Tkachuk/Lemieux-Connor-Roslovic
Foley-Harkins-Spacek
Blomqvist-Olsen (re-signed)-Halischuk (veteran signed to a 2-way)
Franklin-?-?

? (maybe acquired for Burmi or Stuart)-Glover
Harrison (C)-Kostalek
Niku-Poolman/Nogier

Comrie
Phillips

We would have good veteran leadership, and a young core, with a dearth of entry level contracts pushing each other for playing time. Versatility of several players will allow Coach to configure many different lineups (for instance Connor or Tkachuk could move to 2LW if they are ready, with Stafford down to 3RW)

Dale Hawerchuk behind the bench as an Assistant coach.

Have you not watched the last two games? He's learned his lesson and is ready to rock.

Him and burmi looked good last night. And petan is heating up, that's one guy that will only trend up.

Agreed. Lowry and Burmi have been 2 of the bright spots lately.

And as much as Ladd's been my whipping boy for years, Burmi and Lowry have played better cause they're not with Thor, they're with Ladd, an actual top 6 guy. That sure helps.
MP Scheif Ehlers
Staff Little Wheeler
Ladd Lowry Burmi
Thor Copp Armia

That gives us good balance when Scheif is back.

I like that lineup. Though I'd suspect S-L-W would be #1 and take the harder matchups.

Ya, I didn't have them in order there. But we all know it will end up the way it was with LLW.

I do think you nailed the best now lineup. A couple years from now I'm hopeful that some combination of Conner, Roslovic, Petan, Lemieux or Lipon are able to push their way into that forward group.

I think two of the five will be there, my guess Petan in top six and Connor starting on the 3rd line.

I would say that in two years, Lemieux will be in the NHL.

After we draft Matthews the triple L line (Lemieux-Lowry-Lipon) might just be the perfect 4th line compliment to a very skilled forward group.

I'll be surprised if they re-up him after this campaign. Much better 4th line options are available in free agency this summer.

I'm assuming you mean Hali....
I agree but I am talking about when Scheif gets back....I am thinking that Hali plays the PK and you know Maurice.
I'd sit Hali and would be grooming someone like Copp or Armia or Scheif for the PK.

Also, I don't think Chevy will be going after 4th liners in free agency.

He LOVES 4th line options. Just this past summer: Cormier, Fraser, Halischuk & Peluso.

Regarding Mark. When he returns I would bump Thorburn into Halischuk's spot, and move Adam to the wing. Promote Armia to the 3rd line Ehlers goes back to 2nd.

Stafford Little Wheeler
Perreault Scheif Ehlers
Ladd Burmistrov Armia
Lowry Copp Thorburn

I'm thinking Maurice is going to play Ladd and Lowry on the same line.
