NYR-BUF Proposal

TO NYR: Jay Mckee, 2nd rounder

TO BUF: Anson Carter

BUF Reasoning: Good team defensivly who was last in goals scored last year. Carter and Satan as top 2 RWs is pretty good with Kotalik behind them.

NYR Reasoning: Obviosuly, in need of a D-man who can well, PLAY DEFENSE!

I think if you lower the draft pick to a 4th or 5th rounder, it's more then fair.

Here's the problem with your proposal:

McKee is Buffalo's ONLY tough D-man. That would make their blueline as soft, well, as the NYR defense. McKee is reasonably signed for the next 2 years (plus an option year) and is still quite young.

Maybe I'm mistaking Mckee for someone else, but I always thought he was good defensively, but pretty soft.

McKee used to play pretty rough, he's backed off since Lemieux destroyed him with a hit in the 2001 playoffs. I think he's playing a bit more physical this year, but I might be wrong.

But... if you want him, Purinton has to be coming back. McKee IS still the most physical defenseman in the Top 6.

I don't think Buffalo would do this.

I'm willing to bet that Mckee's market value right now exceed's Carter's. Carter is a 25 -30 goal scorer, who plays solid two-way hockey. But, Mckee is a youngish top four defensemen with upside as a #2 dman. He also plays the position that Buffalo is weakest at, and there is also issues related to $.

If only the Rangers and the Islanders could trade, they could meet each others needs so perfectly ;/

Carter for Hamerlik

Why would Buffalo do this? McKee is their top defensive d-man now that Warrener is gone plus Buffalo already have Satan, Dumont, Kotalik and Afingoenov at RW so they don't needed Carter. Furthermore McKee has probably got more trade value than Carter so I can't believe you're also asking for a 2nd round pick!

New York's problem isn't personnel, it's lack of commitment. The days of run and gun hockey passed years ago, if you don't play a defensive system you're not going to win consistently even if you signed Adam Foote, 3 on 2s are still 3 on 2s.

There is no way the Sabres would make this deal.

First, there is little chance that the Sabres would make a deal like this that adds around $1 million to their payroll for this season.

Plus, they are set at RW for now and into the future with Satan, Dumont, Afinogenov, and Kotalik.

Carter sucks. I'd much rather keep McKee.

No problem! We could throw in Dale for free...

@Peter: Carter can play center as well, but I think you're set with Drury and Briere, right?

@Lundmark: I think Warrener is a good option! Maybe we should go for him!

Not a horrible proposal, if Buffalo were deep on D. However, not at all realistic given the blow it would deal to the Buffalo D core- not to mention the effect it would have on their goaltending. McKee is the man. His value would definitely exceed Carter's in the open market. San Jose has plenty of young stud d-men and could probably afford trading one, but why? I mean, defense is so huge. But I'm biased.

McKee and a pick for Carter and Purinton may be fairish, but I don't think likely.

As for Hammer for Carter- no thanks. Carter is too similar to Parrish. Not that I wouldn't like to have him, he's just not high on our list. Keeping Hammer should be.... Timmander's available though.

Of course, Isles and Rangers don't make trade. But, that is beside the point. You don't trade your number 1 dman for a 2nd line winger.

Personally, I've never been a huge Carter fan anyway.

I'm not much of a Purinton fan either and if there were a better physical defenseman on the Rangers I'd ask for him, but to my knowledge there isn't and here we are, me asking for a player I don't really want. Guess that shows that this isn't really a logical trade pair.

Yes, that's true.
I like Dale a lot, but to be honest he is not much more than a 7th d-man. So if a deal depends on if Dale is thrown in, I'd easiy give him away...
