Basically, the owners are pushing for a hard cap of $31 million dollars(but would settle for $35-38 mil), while the players have agreed to all take a 5% pay cut.
They look to be pretty far apart here.
I'd love to see it, but no way the owners get a cap that small, assuming they get one at all. Talk about cold turkey for teams like Dallas/Detroit/Rangers/Philadelphia..."slash your player budget by 50%, have a nice day!". I'm thinking it'll be in the 40-45M range when it's all said and done.
5% pay cut? Let's do some quickie math:
avg salary: approx 1.8 million.
5% of that = 90,000.
X 23 man roster = 2.07 million in average savings/team.
