Depends on your philosophy. Are you a gambler or do you play it safe? Myself, I'd rather go for the four of out four points than automatically concede one game (Salo has a better chance of beating the Avs than Conklin does) by throwing the backup in aginst the powerhouse.

Differing Pholosiphies.

I definitely am not a 'play it safe' kind of guy, but definitely a realist. And I just think giving yourself a chance to at least get some points in the next two games is better than not getting any...

*EDIT* Hey, if Conklin wins tonight, it's a moot point anyways!

I was just on the Oilers website and tonight they honor Brett Callighen, one of the really fine Oilers back in the late 70s. Gritty guy, 99's lw for a time and he had some skill too. One of the few NHLers who also played for an extended period in the IHL (he played for Flint, Kalamazoo and I think one other team, maybe Greensboro).

His eye injury (from Brad McCrimmon's stick) was awful.

I'd suggest they retire Lee Fogolin's number to begin next season and maybe honor guys like Stan Weir and Rusty Patenaude the way they're doing Callighen tonight.

No doubt though, this is a first class move.

I think they honor him against the Blues on Tuesday, actually. But I agree with what you've said; this is a very good idea by the Oilers brass...

Correction. Brett Callighen will be honored on Tuesday prior to the game against the Blues. I just received the e-mail from the Oilers. The e-mail also mentioned that someone will be honoured prior to all home games on Tuesdays.

3-2 oilers win
Well the Oilers would have the advantage if the game was on the moon for that matter

better teams always should win (quite often they don't, but they SHOULD)

Conklin in net.

Oilers shorthanded, and there's our first goal post...

Big save by Conklin!

While there are definite holes in Conklin's game, one thing I've always liked about him is how well he handles the puck. Probably the best goalie in the Oilers system when it comes to that.

Peters (sp?) challanged Laraque, then decided to hit the ice to stop the fight, because Laraque schooled him.

Hindsight and all, but Torres should've shot on that 2 on 1.

The effort's there, but the team still looks tight. That goalless record's getting closer and closer...

Hmmm... He didn't close his hand on the puck in the crease. He closed his hand on the puck IN THE GOAL. Idiot officials.

Right "same old same old". The Oilers have to play against the refs, as well as, the other team. First Torres gets ripped off, then Horcoff gets tripped; no call. We have a bad change; too many men. Looks like the refs are 1 for 3 in getting it right.
