Feel for Henderson. I hope he can overcome this. Absolutely boggling to see what Wideman did and even more mind blowing that some people still defend his actions. Good person or not he was not that night.

Really hope Henderson is okay. Also Wideman is a clown and I really hope the NHL wins this suit.

Has their been any word on what Henderson thought of the hit?

If i was Henderson and the hit ended up ending my career, there would be just no way would i be able to forgive Wideman.

The NHLPA is backing the wrong horse here - though further reaffirming that they're here to protect player's bank accounts not safety and health.

Sounds Like His Career is Finished

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I have fully lost my respect for Dennis Wideman. That stick tap to the ice as he approaches the bench has always bothered me in regards to his "awareness vs. unawareness".

But I doubt Dennis Wideman cares what I think.

Judge Rejects NHLs Attempt to Restore Wideman ban

To summarize. Wideman took his ban to a neutral arbitrator who reduced it to ten games. The NHL didn't agree with that, (fired the arbitrator I think) and took it to the courts. They've now ruled against the NHL.

Finally. A few weeks ago I spent a few hours trying to search for any new information on the appeal. Afaik there was no new evidence since early October and it just took this long for the judge to rule. I'm not surprised by the result since this was all collectively bargained even if the league disagrees with the end result. Should be the final end to the Wideman saga now.

Not surprised. The NHL had to know it was a Hail Mary attempt to get a court to overturn a collectively bargained dispute like this.

Reminiscent of trying to get rid of that lazy useless teacher at your local public school that is embedded in the system and protected by the NEA.

Gary Bettman has a hard time understanding the meaning of the words. "No, you can't do that." That's how this mess ended up in court, and it's how the Yotes ended up wandering the wasteland for a decade.

The merit of the case was irrelevant, you agreed to binding arbitration in the CBA. You don't get to go shop for a judge to rule against a decision by the arbitrator you did not like. Gary is a lawyer he should know better, or maybe he did. If that the case the NHL was just burning money to pander to the ref union.

I don't think it's as clear cut as that.

The arbitrator had to resolve an internal inconsistency in the CBA that made the arbitrator's scope of review unclear. The NHL had a legitimate argument that the arbitrator overstepped his bounds in his interpretation and the standard he ended up using.

It's even possible that the NHL knew it may lose in Courtódue to the very narrow standard for overturning an arbitrator's decision in cases involving a CBAóbut would get favorable "dicta" that would guide future disputes.
