Video Review

Watching the Plymouth Peterborough game the other night made me wonder about video review in the OHL. Plymouth scored the tying goal but it was improperly disallowed. BTW: That is what the Petes announcers said.

Starting last year video review was used in the playoffs, which I thought was a good idea. It made me wonder a couple of things:

Is the TV feed used to judge this in the playoffs? If so, why do they restrict video review to the playoffs? Also, if Rogers TV feed is used, what happens when games are in Erie, Plymouth, or Saginaw? Those games are not televised as far as I know.

Or does the league set up cameras for video review in the playoffs?

Kitchener scored a goal tonight that on the replay on the big screen showed a clear kicking motion into the net i was sure they were gonna go upstairs to make the call but they didn't i never knew video replay wasn't allowed in the ohl except for playoffs they really should put it into the whole aspect of the regular season i don't see why not

Primary reason is that only about 60% of OHL games are televised and the cost involved in setting up cameras/monitoring specifically for the purpose of goal judging is somewhat prohibitive.

Even the "goal cams" used during the playoffs were, at times, unreliable due to bad camera angles (you don't get shots directly over the goal line as in the NHL). I recall one London playoff game where a goal was disallowed and on review it appeared to cross the line however the camera was somewhat in front of the net so the angle was deceptive.
