1 extra year for making an effort to speak French. sounds fair.

The contract isn't bad in of itself, but the ill-conceived strategy of giving term to 4th liners continues.

Depth players are meant to be disposable, they aren't long term assets.

Goes to show they didn't learn any lessons from signing Moen and Prust to long term deals.

Meh, decent fourth liner, money is good but one year too long for a player of his caliber.

Sort of akin to MB's mantra that you can never have too many defencemen: you can never have too many 4th liners.. Low hanging fruit is Bergy's specialty.

Good thing out bottom 6 is locked up long term. Maybe now Bergevin can focus on the top end of the lineup.

Like Mitchell I think the extra year was to bring down the yearly cap hit. Which is smart considering if Mitchell or Byron fall off the wheels they could be easily moved or waived.

Doesn't help that Byron is the smallest shrimp in the league either.

Why does he do this?? What's Bergy's god damn complex with 4th liners?! I'm not even upset any more - but in the awful season, playing awful hockey, 6 days before the deadline - he extends Byron of all people... To 3 years... And not even a discount?!?!

4th line is the best line in hockey.

The other thing to consider is that this is very likely to be Byron's career best season. Its very likely this is Bergevin buying at the top of the market.

Sure. Byron's contract was the only thing holding that up...

I look forward to 3 more years of Therrien attempting to turn him into a 2nd line RW

I love the direction we are taking with this team.
Let's move out Weise Eller and Galchenyuk to open up some roster spots for Lehk Reway and Hudon.
What with Plek DD Ghetto and Gallagher already part of our Club we can probably claim a weight allowance rebate on our airfare next year.

What ever happened to I want to get bigger Marc!

3 years to Mitchell, 2 years to Flynn, 3 years to Byron....too many years on fillers that can easily be replaced. I will not get that.

No. Kids should get a chance in the top-9, not on a fourth line playing 6-10 minutes a game.

I like that signing

If teams were calling and we could have gotten even a fifth, I would have been happy. Good signing, doesn't really change much.

Yeah I assume that's why the extra year is there. And yeah I agree that's how I see it, can bury him without really suffering cap wise.

That's the problem. You don't play kids on 4th line and as a 13th forward.

We need to open spots on our top 9 (Desharnais, Eller, Weise....)

The only top 9 that we should keep are Plekanec, Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Pacioretty.

4th line already set with Mitchell, Byron, Smith-Pelly and Flynn
