I'd characterize it as loss adversion bias thinking, a problem which has characterized this regime from top to bottom.

We could also discuss the love of "character" over ability, but that's another, larger topic.

Not with Therrien at the helm. Kids are put in the fourth line or bust.

Why does he do this?? What's Bergy's god damn complex with 4th liners?! I'm not even upset any more - but in the awful season, playing awful hockey, 6 days before the deadline - he extends Byron of all people... To 3 years... And not even a discount?!?!
Funny thing is I already knew who'd be complaining...1.2 million for a guy that's one of the best SH specialist in the league when it comes to SH points....when you despise someone, it clouds your judgment when analyzing a good or bad signing.

Since when ?

The 4th line this year is mostly Flynn, Mitchell and Smith-Pelly

No complaints. I like Byron and at this price, it's hard to be upset.

Don't like the length. 4th liners should be disposable rather than long term investments. At least the money is reasonable.

Actually, it's what I keep saying...it's stability in mediocrity. Mind you...a soft mediocrity. Mitchell and Byron are better than medicore. They do a good job in their own job. But there are still easily replaceable. And those kinds of players can easily fade out at one point. Byron is also a possibility for injuries. And at one point, we have to become bigger. Hopefully in this century.

I like this kid. Plays bigger than he is, plays unafraid. You win with players like this in the bottom 6.

Pretty much.

The habs could have gotten Jack Skille for 1 year. Good shorthanded and bigger. Oh well, let's hope he can get rid of Flynn. I doubt we can get rid of Desharnais

BargainBin strikes again. There's no need to sign easily replaceable 4th liners to 3-year contracts, even if they are cheap.

Oh well. Hardly matters, I guess. We're not winning squat with this management team in place, so the makeup of the roster is almost irrelevant.

I don't mind the deal he is a good penalty killer and a very serviceable 4th liner.

We're lucky if he only plays a 4th line role going fwd

This is Bargainbin's sweet spot & comfort zone, no surprise

I remember when Halak was dealt, the possibility of injuries was brought up. And he has been injured a fair bit. But so has Price.

They are all injury possibilities in my opinion.

1.2 is a lot for a guy who was just waived.

Who'd a thought that we would be envying the T. management.

I dont really get why people are complaining about the term, its not like Byron is 35 years old and anyway, in the very worst case , if he doesnt perform and we cant trade him, we only have to bury him in the minors with like a 0.2M cap penality for whats left of his contract, which is basically nothing. So there is pratically no risk and on the plus side, if he performs well it could be a nice bargain for us.

Two years would have been better but worse comes to worse u send him to the minors. I like what Byron brings to the line up. Some people don't like the term we give to some of the fourth liners but Mitchell Flynn and Byron are all good fourth liners and keeps the kids from playing on the fourth.

If MT and MB spent half as much time obsessing over helping rookies and secondary scoring as they did on 4th liners the Habs wouldn't be half bad right now.
