Stan Fischler: Prucha better than Crosby

Stan Fischler just said "Prucha is now better than Crosby. He's my pick for the Calder."

Thoughts? Comments?

I heard that ...nice to hear but would you trade Prucha for Crosby straight up?

I can't bring myself...

to ever agree with Fischler. One thing we're all forgetting is that Crosby turned 18 over the Summer. No slight to Prucha, but there's a huge difference between 18 and 23, moreso than 23 and 28, and Prucha's experience in the Czech Republic helps too. Let's make the comparison when Crosby's 20 years old. At least give him a couple NHL seasons. I haven't see enough of Crosby to evaluate, but he's young (Remember Joe Thornton when he was 18?).

Right now I'd take Ovechkin and Lundqvist over Crosby. Prucha's pretty close and his all-around game might actually put him over Crosby in my book. Sid simply isn't nearly the workaholic that Prucha is.

I agree, sometimes people just get carried away. Yes prucha is good, but also something else to consider is svatos has more goals than him, but he is never even mentioned.

DarthSather99 put it best: whom would you rather have? It's easy to say that Prucha looks better than Crosby right now. and if this is about Calder voting, hell, I'd take Lundqvist over Prucha.

Interesting comment considering sid is the only penguin actually working hard and putting in an effort every game these days.

Fischler is like a race horse with a broken leg. Only one thing to do with him. And the answer is not put him out to stud.

Ever since he predicted Jeff Norton as being better than Brian Leetch after their sophmore years... I have learned to never doubt the old wise one's ability to assess young players.

Poor Ranger fans had to endure the heartache of the "Brian Leetch flop" in comparison to the championship winning, hall-of-fame career of Jeff Norton on the Island.

In my opinion the calder race should look like this right now.

1. Ovechkin
2. Crosby
3. Lundqvist
4. Phaneuf
5. Svatos
6. Prucha

True, but Prucha was never hyped to be the next Wayne ****in Gretzky... He was picked 240th, whereas Crosby was picked 1st. Crosby looks like he could be a great player, but has a lot to work on his game. Crosby has great 1 on 1 skills and has great vision on the ice but definitely doesn't hustle or give the effort Prucha does every single night. Crosby gave more effort at the beginning of the season, but lately he's been rather quiet. Not to mention Crosby has played many more minutes (and many more powerplay minutes) than Prucha has this season.

While Prucha is playing well, he's not the dominating player that you expect to win the Calder.

Hmm, my first reaction was: shoot him! But I guess your way is alittle kinder and gentler.

Personally I think Ovechkin is the front runner right now.

Lundvist is up there and people are quietly not giving Phaneuf credit for a nice start to his career.

For the Calder right now I think it's Ovechkin, though if Lundqvist keeps this up he's gonna up there as well.

Prucha is having a very nice season, but I don't think teams have zereo'd in on him the way they have Crosby who has a target on his back since before day 1.

If we're talking Calder I think you could make a case for Prucha, but Crosby has been no slouch either. Long term, not even close: Crosby without even blinking an eye.

I don't think Crosby is the next one (never have actually) but I'd put him up there with Yzerman, Sakic like potential.

No disrespect to Fischler, but thats just silly that he would say Prucha is not only "better than Crosby" but "his" pick for the Calder.

If I say Evgeni Artyukhin is "my" pick for the Calder, it doesn't hold much weight.

Ovechkin has been by far the most impressive rookie in this class thus far. Honorable mention to Phaneuf and Lundqvist.

In Prucha's defense (not that I think he should win the Calder), over the course of the season so far, he hasn't gotten nearly as much ice time as the front-runners like Ovechkin and Crosby. In fact for the 1st 20 or so games, he got 3rd line minutes at best and even now isn't on the top line like those other guys.

Lundqvist & Prucha are having great rookie seasons. Lundqvist to me is the front runner right now for the Calder. Why? He's had the greatest impact on his team. Subtract Overchin(sp) or Crosby from their teams are what do you? Bad teams. But they are bad teams already! Subtract Lundqvist and where are the NYRs? about the same place Pittsburgh & Washington are WITH Overchin & Crosby!

There both in the top 5 for rookies but neither should win the Calder.

Fishler is a dope. Always has been.

Ovechkin, by far, the most talented. I'd take him over anyone in hockey right now.

Anyone just see his penalty shot that won it for the Caps? Just sick. Wasn't even fair....

And ultimately, right, wrong or indifferent that's had an impact on numbers. While I personally understand that a players value is more than numbers, these things ultimately come down to them quite often.

Personally, right now-today, my three finalists would be: Ovechkin, Phaneuf and Lundqvist.
