Colorado/Buffalo/Edmonton idea...

Ok, this is just an idea, and alot of it doesn't make sense, but....

Colorado needs a veteran goalie for the playoff push. Buffalo needs to get rid of a goalie, and Edmondton needs to dump salary.

So, in principal....

To Colorado: Salo, Brown
To Edm: Biron, Tanguay
To Buffalo:J. Smith, Colorado's 1st.

The big problem with this proposal is that it leaves Colorado with 3 goalies and it creates an overload on Buffalo's D. Also, value-wise, with the huge amount of goalies available for nothing or next to nothing, may be waaaay off.

Edmonton comes out of this deal like bandits. They give up an overpaid, underachieving Salo as well as Jason Smith who is making too much money and get a young, cheap 2nd line winger in Alex Tanguay as well as a young, fairly cheap #1 goalie in Martin Biron. Colorado also gives up too much for what they are receiving. Salo is a horrible playoff goaltender, no reason to pick him up.

Since when does EDM need to cut payroll? They did it last year when they traded Niniimaa and Carter. I love the players coming to EDM (actually, EDM probably makes out like bandits in this one, in my opinion), but trading away Smith leaves a sickning (sp?) hole on the Oilers D. It would leave pairings of:
Brewer-Semenov
Staios-Cross
Ferguson-Bergeron
extra: Luoma
That doesn't look good .

Smith is the ringleader on d and the oilers have no one to replace--brewer is a few years away from theresponsability

The idea of Tanguay and Biron coming to Edmonton in pretty cool, but the Oilers cannot afford to lose another defenceman in Jason Smith...

I would probably accept that if I was Edmonton, Ty Conklin is doing fairly well in net right now...

ROTFLMMFAO!

Marty Biron makes 550,000 thousand(THN Fantasy Magazine) this year and is 26.He has a trade value of at least a 1st rounder and a solid prospect.

Curtis Brown is one of the best defensive forwards in the league (Top 10 or 12) and is reliable for 30 points.

Might want to check your stats there. Taken from NHLPA.com, Biron makes 2.1 Million. Brown makes 1.6 million. To be honest, Biron < Miller so far this season, and Miller makes 1/2 of what Biron makes. Brown is a decent defensive forward, but Buffalo would be better off at having a more energy/gritty guy on the 3rd line, i.e. Mair. Brown's cost is >> Production, IMHO. If Buffalo dumps Brown, Biron and Connolly, that would free up 3.9 million in salary (2.1+1.6+1.2-1). Thats a pretty decent chunk. As for the value of Biron, he might not be far off with the 2nd round pick estimation. Right now, there are ALOT of goalies out on the market who can be had for next to nothing, which makes trying to move a goalie next to impossible unless you are willing to get lowballed. I think, unfortunatly, you will see Biron in a Buffalo uni for at least another season.

Biron's trade value is deflated b/c he had a bad year last year, and Buffalo has 3 potential starting goalies.

Bad deal for the Avs and Sabres but the Oil come away laughing getting Biron and Tanguay for Salo and Smith.

The Avs could probably get Salo for that first rd pick so why try for Brown?

Salo is not the goalie the Avs would want.....I think by the deadline and if Aebischer is not incredible they will try for Burke.

as on oiler's fan... WHERE DO I SIGN? i would even toss in comrie somewhere if the return was biron AND tanguay. man, that is sweet for the oilers.

however, i doubt any of the other teams would be as enthusiastic.
